HELP! Really stinky water shoes!

Before I go any farther I must tell you I have several problems with my feet and have Dr. prescribed orthotics. I really can't walk barefoot at all. somedays taking a shower is a challenge. So here's the problem my water shoes, from Lands End, stink to high heaven. Yes they are from last year but I can usually get 1.5 to 2 years out of them before they start to fall apart. I take the kids to the pool just about everyday! I don't remember them smelling last year. At the beginning of the month I was going to camp, yest I know I'm a grown woman but the camp I went to as a child is having there 50th summer and had an open house. So I packed my water shoes in case we wanted to go canoeing. When I packed them I noticed they were smelly so I Fabreezed them put them in a plastic bag and put them in my backpack. Well when I took them out I was almost knocked out!! Since then I have lysoled and frabreezed them but nothing they still stink to high heavens. Does anyone have any ideas short of getting a new pair?

Throw them in the washing machine with warm water and vinegar. This will remove the stink and the bacteria. Do not let them air dry.

you can outgas them in the sun for 48 hours to remove the plastic toxic smell, it works great
