Help... real-estate illiterate

Hi all... looking to pay off our 3 contracts ! My husband handles all mortgages for home and DVC. He asked me to look and/or call to get payoff information for DVC. When I went online to loan page, I got the page stating " nothing to see here" and underneath it stated we are in escrow and I'd need to call for info ? Can you please explain to me like I'm 4 years old what escrow means within a time share/ Dvc? The accounting office was already closed. Thx!!
