Ok, I normally don't make these kind of threads.
But I need some homework help, and fast.

We're reading Night by Elie Wiesel. And it's about the Holocaust.
And we need to draw something that symbolizes or represents the holocaust.
And we can't use flames, the jewish star, or people.

I'm drawing a blank.
Ideas would be GREATLY appreciated.
This is due tomorrow.

Thanks!
I'm deffinatly not the most creative person.
I've thought of a few things, but they're just..... =/ I don't know if I want to use them.

First of all, Night is a really really great book. And I love your idea of a blank. It's so symbolic of what the people felt like.

But sadly, I have no art skills at all, and my creatvity and severly limited lately. If I think of anything I'll post it asap, I just had to tell you what a great idea that was.

I'm not sure how I would draw a "blank" though.
I don't want my teacher to think I didn't do anything xD

Maybe hand her a blank peice of paper, and explain why in great detail. I think that if she really understands the holocaust (which I'm sure she does) that she'll understand what the blank means and really appreciates it.

If she doesn't..well then poo on her. :)

That's what I think I might end up doing.
I'll draw a back up picture just incase she doesn't accept that one xD
I just need to think of that too xD

We do have to go up in front of the class and explain so, I think the blank would work.

Instead of people use puppies and instead of flames use flowers and instead of the jewish star do hearts.

Underlying messege is you can't understand how bad the Holocaust was unless you were a part of it. No matter how hard you try to put it into something emotional you can't understand how bad it was.

How artistic are you?

Maybe old abandoned buildings. They respresent despair and hopelessness. And make it all in black or dark colors.

Anything dead or decaying for their dead spirits and that many people died there.

I had to do something like this in High School as well.

When I did it, I drew a single tree without leaves.

The tree would represent the lack of individuality for the people in concentration camps (i.e. how all people were looked at as one group, never as individual people), while the barren trees symbolizes the removal of their individual person, be it items, their name and identity, family members, will to live.

Can also represent the death and dying, the hopelessness, etc

Kind of creepy, but what about a gas mask?
Most died in concentration camps in a gas chamber, right?
Or how about a train?
I remember reading about a concentration camp called Aushwitchz-Berkinauw (sp) and it said most were shipped there by train.

Yeah, they were usually shipped to the concentration camps in cattle cars. ::yes:: That's a good idea.

swimlib, the tree is a really interesting idea.

So Melissa, you said it was due today. What'd ya end up drawing?

Hey we just started Night today! :)

Hmm. I know you already handed it in but I liked Sonya's idea of the cattle car.

whoa. thats crazy, i had to do the same exact thing last year in my english class...well except i could use people.
hm, that is a little tough though.

the blank piece of paper is a good idea.

and i also like what schmitty said. hes right, you know. You can read all the books you want, and you can draw all the pictures and you can make all the vague connections you can make. But you'll never truely understand the desolation, loneliness, fear, and pain that the captive felt.

so I brought this up to my boyfriend and he mentioned he would draw a pile of shoes... If you still didn't get anything maybe that can help

I really wanted to do the blank idea. But my english grade is slipping, and I really didn't want to risk it. And I was so beat, I fell asleep before I could see your suggestions! I'm so mad, I love all of your ideas!

I drew a pair of a pair of shoes, because 1. The nazis made the Jews take them off when they came to camp 2. They were an empty pair of shoes just like how Jews felt empty and 3 Because some of them would never walk the earth again.

Not incredibly creative, but.... it's over now.
:[

Anyway, I read ahead, and finished Night ahead of schedule. It was hard to read, but I couldn't put it down!

Woah! I just read that in English class! It was a very good book. The ending shocked me though.

If you can somehow find it, try to watch the Oprah special when she and Elie go back to Auschwitz. Its very touching! I literally almost cried it was so sad!

I think my English teacher is bringing it in on Monday.
I just read the ending today....it made me feel awful! I just visualized him..and what he was talking about...and.... >.<
I can't even imagine what those people went through.
Not even a little.
:sad2:
