Hi everyone,

We have been renting points at DVC for 5 years and I am renting points for a split stay at BCV (8/10) and WVL this summer! Recently, I found out that I may need to have surgery, and unfortunately it can only be scheduled during our WVL stay. http://www.wdwinfo.com/images/smilies/sad20.gif

I have had trouble reaching the member I am renting from and hope someone might know some options. My first priority is that the owner not lose any money -- I know owners take some risk when renting and appreciate the ability to rent points! That said, I am totally willing to "keep" the reservation even if we can't make the stay (although I hate for it to go to waste!). But, I wonder if there is the option to cancel w/o the owner losing the points so we can get at least some refund? Any info anyone has would be great.

I don't think anyone can really comment here, this is strictly between you and the member you rented from.

Keep trying to make contact and I hope it works out for you.

Assuming your arrival date is 8/10, you still have about a week before the points become distressed. Cancellations within 31 days of arrival place some pretty severe restrictions on future use of the points.

It also depends upon the owners Use Year. Those points expire at some point in the future and that expiration date plays a big role in flexibility. They could expire as early as 8/31/09. No way of knowing without contacting the owner.

But the biggest issue is the owner's willingness to work with you. Assuming you have a written agreement, if that agreement states "no cancellations" then you may be stuck. As the renter you have absolutely no power to cancel or re-schedule the trip. And the owner is not obligated to refund any of your money.

Keep trying to reach him/her. Hopefully you can work something out. :goodvibes

Thanks, that is helpful. I'll keep trying to reach the owner -- but I think they are in WDW right now :) We didn't have a written contract, but I have always gone under the premise that once I send a payment I am 100% obligated. This year is something I could not have anticipated. We don't need to leave WDW until 8/14 so I will keep my fingers crossed that something can be done before the 31 day mark.
