My wife and I have a very large # of United flight miles.. :rolleyes1

We accumulated them flying overseas earlier this year. We normally do not fly UNITED and will not fly them to WDW because SWA is our 1st choice.

Can I use them for staying at the WDW hotels?

Help rookie users at points.. :confused3

Thx in advance...:thumbsup2

How many is a large number? Whenever you move miles between programs you lose value because they never transfer one for one. You would need at least 10,000 for it to be worthwhile to do anything with.

You will need on average 10,000 miles per night at a midtier hotel.

Im sorry.. I was unclear.

I want to use the miles at WDW. How do we do this? :confused3

We have alot more than 25000 :upsidedow

If you have a lot more realize that 50K will get you a coach award to Europe. I always think in terms of international awards before cashing in miles before exchanging them for something else. An average Europe ticket costs $900 and for 50K you could book 5 nights at a Courtyard Palm Parkway. Considering a Courtyard can be had for less than $100 a night burning miles for hotels seems like a poor use of miles.

Thank you...

Wow... looks like we can stay free in Orlando for awhile..

United doesn't fly to MCO direct out of STL... or at least that we can ever find. So we will just use the points for stay.

I am assuming WDW will not take the points to stay at their hotels?

You can use them at the Disney hotels. Go into United's website, go to Mileage Plus and then use miles. Do a search of hotels by name and enter Disney for the name. I put in a night in late January and it ranged from 11,050 for All Star to 46,650 for GF.

Given that frequent flyer miles are usually estimated to be worth 1-2 cents each, this doesn't sound like a great deal, unless one has no other use for the miles.

Considering the big discounts Disney has been offering, I agree.

Sounds like OP doesn't value these United miles very much and just wants to use them before they lose them.....

Personally, I fly on an awards ticket with a connection before using them on a hotel....

OP, you an always book me a flight to MCO, I'll gladly make a connection! :)

Using miles on hotel rooms is an absolute waste. Terrible conversion and you get really weak value for your miles. You can avoid your miles from expiring my simply purchasing a $1 song off iTunes via United's online shopping portal. Doing that extends the expiration by 18 months, and you can eventually get a lot more value for your miles.
