HELP!!!!! Points transfer issues!!!!

No one seems able to answer this. I tried dvcmember.com and searched endlessly online (here and elsewhere...) for answers.

I asked MS this morning, upon discovering that there isn't a room (OF ANY TYPE) in any resort for December 26-29th, if I could waitlist two possiblities. He answered NO, because you only have 86 pts and you need 120 pts to reserve a 1 bedroom villa for those 3 nights.

I asked what if I had a friend transfer points in to my DVC account? I know that they'd maintain their specific rules (i.e. Use Year, and Resort Booking Rules- also that they'd be bankable). He answered that you may not use Transferred OR Disney's One Time Use *$15 per point* for a waitlisted reservation either.

I don't really understand the reason for limiting the use of their purchased points, seems to shoot themselves in the foot. Why not sell pts if people want them!?
And, I can't find confirmation anywhere online at all that the DVC Member to Member transferred pts may not be used for a waitlisted item. I understand that you are allowed to only transfer ONCE in/out per Use Year. So, why not let me use them for whatever I want, as long as it keeps to the rules otherwise (UY and Booking)!??

Call back and talk to someone else at MS. Once points are transferred to your account they are the same as your other points.

Maybe they thought you were only going to transfer the points if the wait list came through? After the points have been transferred there is no reason you shouldn't be able to be added to the wait list.

You should definitely be able to use transferred points to waitlist, however, you will only be allowed to go on the waitlist once the points are there - that is purely because, if the waitlist comes through, you need to have the points there in your account to make the reservation at that time.

I submitted a thread (has to be approved by Rent/Trade Mods) for points transfer- and my dates. As soon as it goes through, I'll call and waitlist my days.

Make sure the points have a fairly long expiration so that if your wait list doesn't come through you will still have time to use the transferred points for another reservation.

Instead of transferring, there may another option if you have a 2011 vacation pending using 2011 UY points and 2012 points still in you account. You can reallocate by borrowing 2012 points to use for your 2011 vacation, thus freeing up some 2011 points. MS can then WL your 2010 vacation and pull the 2011 points only if the WL comes through. Of course, if you are already tapped out of 2012 points, it may just be time to do an add-on! Best of luck -- Suzanne
