It's just me and 4 yr old ds for a 3 night 2 day trip at the beginning of Nov. We will drive down, so I will have a car.

Had my mind set on staying at Pop and going to 2 Disney parks, but we're going next week, so thought I should check into Universal since the trips are close together and maybe we'd like to do something new.

Problem is budget, dh will be on an expensive fishing trip, so we will both be spending money at the same time, LOL!

I figured we could stay at Pop with a code and the whole trip would come out to approx $600 with 2-day tickets & cheap meals.

so, is there anyway this can be done at Universal staying on property? if so how, where, what tickets? (I couldn't get anywhere near $600 for the trip on their website)

I'd appreciate ANY comments? Thanks a bunch!

Well, you won't be able to do it by staying on-site at Universal...the discounted prices start closer to $145/nt. You could stay at a nearby off-site place for closer to your goal.

If you don't mind the driving, you could still stay at Pop and commute to Universal/IOA each day (just factor in parking fees).

Hi, Not sure if this will help or not, but..........

First - Call the resort you are interested in.......... RPR is the most economical..... and ask them if there are any discounts for the days you plan on staying! There are many discounts to be had from the Ent. book, fan club, ap, aaa, and on and on....... it just depends on if they are honoring any at the time of your trip. So, that is where you need to start.

Second........ You can get an AP for $169.00 / child $109.00 which gives you discounts on food and merch. and free parking at the parks.... NOT the resorts!!!! ALSO, you can opt for the flex pay......... meaning you pay around $17.00 a month.....
something to consider.......

Third- You can get a 5 day pass now for $89.95 per person which would be about for you and your child.... $190.00

***** A one day 2 park pass for you is $66.45/ and your child $56.95, so this $89.95 deal, even though it is for 5 days is a MUCH better deal.

So, lets say you can get the room for $145.00 a night, x 2 = close to $400.00 add $190.00 for your tickets, that is = $590.00 and that doesn't include food, gas, etc......

OR, if you did the AP with flex pay............. you'd pay and I'm guessing here, for you and your daughter........ perhaps, $30???
so, the room at $145.00 x 2 = $400 plus $30.00 = $430.00

SO...... there is room for improvement here, first, do you want to do BOTH parks?? If not, then perhaps a 2 day one park ticket would be less, you'd have to check. There are TONS of ticket options avail.
And, you could perhaps get the room cheaper as well......... all you can do is keep checking the rates. Lets say you can get a room with the ent. rate.......... ( I've gotten RPR for $109.00) then you'd have to purchase an ent. book......... you can find those at..... www.entertainment.com, any book will work, you don't have to get an orlando book...... OR, if you went the AP route, then perhaps the AP discount is cheaper............. You just have to do a little homework and price each one out.

I would recommend staying onsite if you can.......... fotl is worth it!!! I would just keep reading all the post........ when deals come out, they are pretty quickly posted about here. I hope this helps.......

Wow! Thanks for all the info Wendypooh! I had no idea there were so many great ticket options and prices, and that's a deal for APs! I will definitely be checking this board now as often as I was checking the Disney ones!

Not sure yet, but I think we might just go to Sea World since the 2nd day is free and ds will LOVE going two days in a row. We liked the Hilton Garden Inn when we stayed there 2 years ago, but it's booked. I'll keep looking for a nice hotel close by.

I posted about staying on-site at Disney and traveling to Univ on the Disney resort board, and everyone was against it, LOL, so after reading how great the Universal properties are, I think we'll save that trip for early next year when I can plan for it more and dh can go too.

Thanks so much for taking the time to post all those details!!!!

You are welcome!! I'd have to agree, I'd wait and make it an entire family trip!!! You can get some super discounts at the resorts, and the parks....... it just takes some planning!!

I know when you do go........ you will love it!!
