Help! Parent Advice Needed

DD just got accepted into the CP and will be checking in January 17. My tentative plan is to fly down with her on Saturday, spend Sunday together and then go with her to check in Monday. I was thinking of taking ME from the airport to resort, and renting a car or taking a taxi for check in. I was planning on flying home on the 18th.

Does this sound feasible? From reading the threads, it sounds like a lot of parents stick around for a few days but I assumed she would be so busy with getting settled in, etc., that she wouldn't have time to do anything with me. Any and all advice will be greatly appreciated!

I checked in on a Wednesday. My Fiance came up with me on Tuesday and stayed until Friday as Thursday was a free day and I wasn't ready to say goodbye yet.

DD just got accepted into the CP and will be checking in January 17.

Similar plan for me except my two DS will be checking in 1/19. I will be flying down on the weekend, renting a car and then working from our Orlando office Tue-Fri before flying home to Rochester. Jan 17 is MLK day and our office is closed so I can spend the day picking up a few things locally for them. Of course, we won't know everything to buy until they check in to their apartments.

Our daughter checked in on the September 1st. That morning was busy but they were pretty much done by around 1 p.m. (we arrived early that day). The next day was free and on Friday she had her traditions training. She was also scheduled for her role training that Saturday but then had off on Sunday.

Once we had checked in we were able to see what she was missing and also did a grocery run to stock up. That had some welcome parties as well but all in all, it wasn't too hectic or busy.

I was glad to have a few extra days after she checked in before we left.

I think your plan sounds great! I checked in for the CP in August, and you're right that your DD will be very busy those first couple of days. If you want to get some parent/child time together, my personal opinion is that it's better to do it before she checks in than to try and get quality time while she's settling into her new surroundings and getting to know other CPs.

The day that I checked in, the morning was packed with registration and parents/family were asked to wait in a separate area. Then I was scheduled for the first housing meeting (took up a couple of hours) that afternoon, so my parents and I had a little more than an hour to grab a late lunch and then they needed to leave b/c they had work the next day. Then my roommates and I went out for dinner together to start bonding. Tuesday was also busy with shopping for groceries, more unpacking, spending time with my roommates and new friends, figuring out the area, etc. My Traditions class was Wednesday, and then I trained for the next six days so my parents wouldn't have been able to spend much time with me that week if they'd stayed. Some of my friends had more time in between arrival and training and had a couple of free days to spend with their parents, but CPs won't know what their first week will be like until they arrive.

Of course, I can only offer my $.02 as a DD. Good luck to yours in the Spring!

After accepting the position, how soon after is it determined when the CP's with have their traditions class, or start their work training?

your plan sounds perfectly fine. My Mom is driving down with me and leaving the night after check in. That day, disney doesn't have the CPs doing anything so most people use it to get settled, do some grocery shopping, etc. Your daughter might like you being there that day but then again she may want to use it to spend time with her new friends. Talk to your daughter about it and see what she prefers is my best advice.
