Help...packing For Formal Night

Just my thoughts...

My Husband and son do not own a suit and it was cheaper and easier for us so we rented tuxes for the two if them. They looked great!

But there were people in all 'levels' of formal. Do what makes you makes ypu happy. It's your vacation!

I agree with everyones post. There were all levels of dress wear at both the formal and the informal and I think everyone felt comfortable.

For me and my family, we dressed to the nines both nights. My husband wore a tux, I had long gowns, DD8 wore a formal Monday and a semi-formal Thursday, and DS14 wore a suit both nights. We looked great in our photos and it was fun. We actually went to the movie theater on Thursday and got tons of comments - it was fun. Kind of like going through McDonalds drive thru in your wedding dress.

But our table mates wore a suit, sun dress and kids in regular clothing and we all felt fine. There is no pressure.

As a contrast, my husband wore shorts on Pirate Night and on Friday night after we packed everything else and felt comfortable both nights. It really is to your own chosing.

Wear what makes you feel comfortable and you will have a BLAST!!

I'm certainly not going to flame anyone; I though I might just add a few thoughts.

I agree that in this world there are WAY too many people who worry about other people and get into other's lives where they don't belong. I don't think that was Logan_2000's point though; there are rules put out there, not by us, and it is frustrating when people don't follow the rules. We are not putting OUR definition of formal or semi-formal onto others, we are abiding by a definition put out for everyone. Is it OK to let your children jump into a pool that says "No jumping"? Is it OK to smoke where it says "No Smoking"?

In my documents for the cruise, it clearly states that men must wear a jacket and tie, not a suit or a tux. If you choose to disobey the rule and hope that no one says anything, that is your choice. And probably no one will say anything. But that doesn't change the fact that it is what the rules ask you to do--doesn't matter if you pay for your trip or not. Everybody pays, and there are rules for everybody to follow.

Everyone has a different idea of what to wear--that is why there are guidelines. You can't get much clearer than that! I'm not even offering an opinion on if the guidelines are good, fair, or stupid--but they are the rules.

We could also put some of this on Disney, as much as I love them! If they are not going to enforce the rule, they should consider not having it. JMHO

I've seen this topic on the board many times, and we may never come to an agreement on this! I think, though, the focus is always on what people feel comfortable in and what people want to wear, and to me, that's not the issue. If it's the rule, that's what you have to go by. That's why we have them :flower:

I think people should follow the rules to the best of their ability. If you don't own a suit and have no need for one in your lifestyle, don't buy one. Rent a tux or wear a blazer and tie. You know going in there is a dress up night, I think dressing nicely shows respect for yourself and fellow guests. I just don't think anyone should buy something they will only wear once. Tank tops and sweatpants are rude anytime you are eating out.
