Help on footwear....

I am going to try to find the Teva's at a local store and give them a try. Many of you seem to agree on these Mush Flip Flops. I went for 4 days in Aug/Sept and had sore feet with blisters after the first day and it was unbearable. I wore Crocs (Nile), my regular walking sneakers and regular sandals. I am going for 10 nights later this year and need to figure something out.

Thanks!

Missie

I wpuld say as long as you get totally used to them and break them in (make SURE you can deal with flip flops- I can't handle the rubbing between my toes very well), the Teva Mush might be a good shoe for you. The ONLY issue I have with them (other than the toe rubbing thing) is that for me, the Tevas might not have enough arch support for a full day of walking.

I just bought my Mushes, though, so I don't have WDW experience with them. Based on how they feel to me, this is JMO.

The teva mush flip flops are GREAT...but IMO not good for long walks. I made the mistake and wore my mush flip flps at the Cancer walk one year and ended up with HUGE HUGE blisters on the balls of my feet. I could hardly even stand on my feet at all. The ONLY shoes I could even put on with the blisters were Keen sandles. Last time at WDW I used my Keen's and some Chaco's flipflops. Of course I think everyone is diffrent when it comes to blisters...But this was the FIRST time I can ever think of that I developed blisters at all.

Are you talking the regular Mush or Too Mush?

I would think a lot of people would have issues with a flip flop because of either the rubbing between the toes or the sliding which I personally believe is due to improper fit and cheap flips. I have a few pair of Reefs that are great but I've not tried to walk around WDW in them, I just overcame my fear of Crocs in Disney and am looking further to more extensive testing this Summer. I have worn a Nike sandal with a heel strap because I didn't want to lose it and it worked great, wore it over several trips but I don't think they even make that model any more. DW wears a Sperry flip flop because it has a round cord between the toes so there's no material rolled up that irritates her.

So my advice over all would be not to make Disney the test. Wear whatever you want to try at home and do some walking, more than once. You shoed know that you can walk in them and have at least some breaking in of the shoes before you go to WDW. Before I wore my Crocs in Disney I actually ran on our treadmill before the trip for over 30 min nonstop. As a matter of fact, I just got DW a new pair of Pink Caymans and she walked on the treadmill yesterday for 45 min and was amazed. I've been trying to get her to try them on there and she didn't believe me.:)

I totally agree....test drive your shoes before you actaully go to disney (not matter what) you just never know. If I hadn't done the cancer walk in my Teva's I maybe would have tryed them at the world....after all they are great flip flops that I wore on a dialy basis and NEVER ever had any issues with (until....walking many miles in them during the cancer walk).

This next time I'm SOOOO tempted to go with the Crocs craz. My kids wore them and their Keens last time and never had any issues. I wear them at work and LOVE them....there great for being on your feet all day. Now to only decide on color, style and/or micky heads or not:thumbsup2

I like the Teva Mush flip flops myself, so I'll be bringing those for sure. Has anyone worn Birkenstocks? I have a pair of those that I just bought from shoebuy, and was considering those as well, but not sure how comfortable I will be.

I wore Birks last trip without any problems. Be sure they are well broken in and wear socks with them. I need a shoe with more arch support and I switched back and forth between my running shoes and Birks without any problems.

Does anybody have any opinions on really really good sneakers...like new balance or nike shox?? Has anyone tried these and been ok with them?

Thanks! I just ordered a pair last night so I'll have a good 7 months to break them in. I plan on wearing them quite a bit over the summer on Dress down Fridays at work and on the nights/weekends. I may see a podiatrist because I notice the arch hurts on my left foot even when wearing my good supportive sneakers.

Go to a good athletic shoe store and try a bunch on. Everyone's feet are different.

I do well with Ryka walking shoes, with gel heel cups (courtesy of the orthopedist), extra foam for support under the arch (courtesy of the physical therapist).

I wore Reebok classics- they come in white or black leather, with white ankle socks (the short ones that you couldn't see with the tennis shoes) I got them a month before I went, and broke them in over the weekends, wearing them to grocery store, Wal mart, etc. They really don't need much breaking in, anyway. They were so comfortable. We went at the end of September, and it was around 90-95 everyday, with 100% humidity. My feet got a little hot, but no blisters or any issues with my feet. :goodvibes

I love my Birks, and have worn them in the parks a lot. (And I don't wear socks with them.:) ) I wear sandals all the time - if I tried to wear my tennis shoes I would have major foot problems. :confused3 I am posting below a picture of the shoes I am taking. From 3 o'clock they are my new (but broken in) Teva Ventura cork, my old Birks, my fairly new Teva Olawahu, and my old Danelle sandals. (You can see my other red Birks in the background.)I can't wear Crocs because my feet are too narrow. The reason you have so many differing opinions is because everyone's feet are different! :rotfl: Just find what works for you by WALKING in them a LOT, try to have more than one kind, use bodyglide, and carry moleskin and the Bandaid blister protectors. Be vigilant for hot spots, since you know you are susceptible to them, and use the moleskin or blister protectors. That should keep you on your feet! :goodvibes

Another good comfortable style of shoe that I've found are the skater/board shoes such as etnies, DVS, DC, Adio, etc. I've found them to be really soft and comfortable. They can tend to get a bit hot but I found that bringing an extra pair of socks and changing when my feet start to get hot is the perfect solution.

I just got Mary Jane Summer sneakers ($29.50) from LL Bean a week ago and I think they are my new Disney shoes. They are incredibly comfortable and are "water shoes." I have a lot of foot/leg trouble. I used to wear birkenstocks all the time--sometimes get a blister from them at Disney from all the walking. Last year, I switched to Croc clogs after the 1st day (wore them with no-see-um socks and felt like a geek until I saw lots of other people doing the same thing!) and had no problems with the Crocs. I've been wearing Crocs without socks this spring--getting ready for our May trip--and I don't think they will cause problems for my feet.

My DH's podiatrist highly recommended New Balance sneakers for long days on your feet. I found that wearing good sneakers with support and cotton socks was the best combination. I've never had a blister in WDW. For those who would wear flip-flops, you are far braver than I... I wore them on a beach trip one summer and after walking the length of the boardwalk, I had such a bad blister between my toes that I could have cried.

I have heard a lot of good things about New Balance, I think I am gonna give them a try for Disney this year, I need to go now so I can get them good and worn in for my September trip.....yippee....

number 1..........start walking! it will be the BEST way to prepare your feet!
I walk 3 miles a day but hubby and kids,,,,,not so much. A month before we leave for wdw, we get new walking/running shoes. My favorite are Addidas or Nike= the kind with the mesh-they breathe better that all leather ones. wearing their new shoes, the kids walk to and from school--only 5 blocks--and we take after dinner family walks. Start out slow......even if it is only around the block at first, it is better than nothing and your feet will get accustomed to being used that way....lol!

I did try flip flops once on a rainy day and it was a BAD choice! Not only did I not have any support, they were super slippery on that smooth pavement!

If you want a sandal, I would go for a teva type and use the body block.

good advice on the socks too....get cotton or sweat wicking socks that you have worn walking.....different socks=different seams=possible blisters!

If you do have a blister, Dr. Shcoll's padded moleskin works much better than bandaids. Still hurts but at least it cushions and doesn't fall off or move around like band aids.

I just tried on an easy spirit slip-on at macy's and now know why my MIL loves them. They are so soft and cushiony it's like walking on air, clouds, pillows, etc. I didn't buy them because I'm leaning towards the Nike Air Impel walking shoe, but they are quite comfy.

It looked something like this, but probably an older style:

We are buying new shoes this week so that we can break them in during the month before we go. I don't let the kids where flip flops as they get their toes run over, stepped on, and the risk of getting their toes caught on getting in and out rides, doors, etc is not worth losing a toe for. The girls wear Vans, Sketchers, and DC's. Always wear socks, and I wear the mule shoes to prevent the rubbing that drives me nuts on the back of my heel. I am starting walking longer now as I'm the one that is doing the majority of walking and pushing the two little ones in a rented stroller 6,4. Of course making necessary rest stops is important. We are packing in our suitcases some dr.sholl gel feet in case someone needs extra comfort after the first day.

LL Bean sneakers are the best! I wore a brand-new-from-the-box pair last trip for 6 days in a row, and had the most comfy feet around! I got the slides, since I must be able to free my feet from shoes at a moment's notice. :rotfl: I'll be getting a new pair for this coming trip.
