Help NewYork?

Challer you stole my ideas!!! ;)

Here is a link to the subway map so you can get around to all of those wonderful places that everyone has suggested:

Also just a side note...My friend's father is the manager at John's pizzeria...someone had suggested eating there...another :thumbsup2 from me about that place. Really good food. It's not just a pizza place they have all kinds of food there. And the prices are very moderate for NYC. Don't go on a Wednesday night thought because you will get the Broadway crowd.

Since you will be here Memorial Day Weekend you may want to think about hopping on the Long Island Railroad and going to one of the beaches (Jones Beach, Long Beach, the Hamptons, etc..). Here is a link to the LIRR website with train schedules and fees:

Have fun and enjoy NEW YORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LIRR NOOOOO! As one who rides the LIRR on a regular basis and can't even count the number of cumulative days of my life wasted in LIRR delays, I cannot say this strongly enough... DO NOT COMMIT ANY VALUBLE VACATION TIME TO THE LIRR! I wouldn't recommend the LIRR on Holiday schedule to my worst enemy. Stay on Manhattan.

The LIRR to CITIFIELD to go to a met game takes 16 minutes from Penn Station, much easier to take LIRR to Citifield than the 7 train.

My main suggestion would be to avoid places you could go to at home (TGI Fridays, Applebee's, etc) - take advantage of some places unique to New York (Unique New York - good tongue twister!).

I like Lombardi's for pizza cooked in a coal oven - delicious (down in Little Italy on Mott & Spring). They claim to be the very first pizza joint.
Then when you're done eating, you can pop across the street to a place called Rice to Riches for a scrumptious take on rice pudding. Even if you don't like rice pudding, go and have some samples. You may change your mind with a mouthful of Rocky Road.

I also really like Mesa Grill (Bobby Flay's other restaurant) in the Flatiron District.

Okay, we got our reservation. We will arrive in New York on May 29th, at 10:05 at JFK.Memorial weekend did not work for everyone. We are staying at the Millenium Hotel at the UN Plaza. MY sister is a Travel agent, so we get the room for 99 a night. We will leave New York On Mon. morning at 10:55. am. So is this a nice hotel? What is close to it? I have had a great time taking all of your ideas down. How often will we have to take a cab places.? Cost.? Thanks everyone.

I believe you will be on the East side...in the low 40's around 1st or 2nd Ave...I am not too sure where the UN is...is this correct people??!?? It's easy to get around. The 6 train runs close to there and you can catch a cab (there will be PLENTY of cabs around there) to get anywhere. That's a nice area for dining, lot's of pubs and restaurants. Check out McFaddens on 42nd and 2nd for happy hour or Calico Jack's (next door) for some Mexican food. Don't go after 8pm though or you will run into the young 20's bar crowd and they can get rowdy...:drinking1

OK OK had to edit to add another Mexican place you simply must try: Tortilla Flats at 767 Washington St (@ W. 12th Street) in the West Village (Otherwise known as the 'meatpacking district'). This place is hysterical and they make really good margaritas. If you give the cab driver the address he will pretty much know where to go...

Looks like the OP will be a few blocks east of Grand Central Terminal - not sure if they want to walk all that way every day, but the M27 bus looks like it would be useful to get to Times Square and/or various subway stations:

http://www.mta.info/nyct/bus/schedule/manh/m050cur.pdf

We had our first trip ever to NYC last week so some things I can still remember - cab fare from Grand Central to Lincoln Center was about $10 plus tip, ditto Ed Sullivan Theater. To get to Times Square from Grand Central we used the S subway line. The subway MetroCard ($25 for 7 days of unlimited use) was also good on the local buses (not express buses).

Express buses are usually for traveling between boroughs. So the OP probably won't be using those...
