Our last Disney trip was 2/21 (before all the changes). I am not up to date on the know how.

My oldest is taking a band trip next week to Disney/Universal. He is spending 2 days at Disney. I am trying to help him plan but unsure on several things.

He and 3 friends want to get Genie+ for their MK day. We are unsure how to make it happen. They will get on the bus Mon morning and sometime during the day, they will be given their passes.

1. They need to make MDE accounts, correct?
2. Then they need to add their dis passes to their accounts, correct?
3. Then, they need to connect each other's accounts, correct?
4. At 12:01am on the day of, they can buy genie+, correct?
4a. My son wants to use a Dis GC, but I cant see how to add his goft card to his payments. Can he use a Dis GC to get Genie+?
4b. If the 4 teens accounts are connected, can my son just buy genie+ for all 4 boys theough his account?
4c. They are staying offsite. Can they reserve their first 2 rides at 9am, even if they are not in the park yet?
5. Anything else I should know to help them prepare?

There was a thread awhile back about adding Genie+ to school trip tickets and some people had problems doing so because of the type of ticket. This is the thread; https://www.disboards.com/threads/disney-band-trip-told-no-genie-plus.3912800/

Perhaps there is some info in there that might help. I guess also knowing what type of ticket your kid will have as it seems some types cannot add Genie+.

Worst case scenario he can go to guest services at any park for help. They have always been helpful to us with ticket issues, Genie+ issues, etc.

Thabk you for the help. However I am not worried about the type of ticket. The email we have from the Band trip company talks about adding Genie+ and I will cross that bridge when I come to it.

I am focused on the nature of 4 teens connecting their different accounts and then adding Genie+. That is the information I care about. I want to make sure my son is knowledgeable on the steps. (Then if there is an issue, we can deal with it as it comes).

They can create accounts today and then send invitations via email to the others for friends and family. Once they have tickets tied to their account one person should be able to buy Genie+ for all of them by creating a group of who's going.

I agree with making accounts today, or at any rate before the trip. I assume your son is in your MDE account Family & Friends list, so after he creates his account, you need to use the Update function in your MDE account to link your MDE account to his new MDE account. Otherwise there might be complications on your future trips as a family.

Having all his friends set up their MDE accounts now allows plenty of time to get them all linked together as F&F, so that as soon as they get their park tickets they can link them to their respective MDE accounts and then start Planning Together!

I agree with what others have said regarding a prior thread I also recall seeing that the type of group tickets can vary depending on what arangements your organization has been made with Disney. I assume with group travel, someone would lose their ticket or someone else would leave it at home, so handing them out upon arrival reduces the potential for issues.

For sure, setup all of the MDE accounts prior to the trip. When we took a multi-family trip a few years ago, some things about MDE didn't work right and we had to spend some time prior to our trip getting it all setup right. Disney IT can be unpredictable and we eventually had to call Disney to get all of the links working right. They had no idea what was wrong, but were able to get it working correctly. It would be a huge nuisance trying to do that after you arrive.

A gift card is not a credit card so there may be certain Disney purchases where using that isn't possible. I know some older threads talk about ordering food and what you are able to do so might look for that as well.
