Help needed with VA online check in! Please :)

Sorry if this has been posted before but I have some questions and would much appreciate some help oh wise ones

1. Is online check in worth it? When it comes to queueing in England I can honestly say I'm not a big fan, would this be easier?

2. You can check in 24 hours before scheduled departure right? So do they open up some seats for you to request? I know you can currently log on and pre allocate seats BUT when I went on there was none that floated my boat and they only release 60% so wasn't loads anyway. So when you do online check in do they open more for me to choose from? I would ideally like a window seat but the main thing is sitting with my partner who has never flown before (bless him)

wheny ou check in online you only have to queue at the bag drop line in the airport

some seats are relased for olci so you can change them when you check in, you print your bording passes when you do the online check in
