I need a hotel room in NYC for this Sunday nite. I'd like a nice hotel in the Time Square/Central Park area, but the prices are outrageous. I need help in convincing my DH and myself that we should try Priceline. I've never used PL as I'm afraid of what/where I'll get.

Would I do best in requesting a 4 star hotel? What would be a good price to use? Would Mid-Manhattan be the area I want to request? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated by this little county bumpkin!

I use Priceline all the time for hotels in NY. I usually bid on the 4-star hotels and I have never been disappointed.

There is a site called biddingfortravel.com. You'll find a lot of helpful suggestions and the moderators there will help you with a strategy for bidding on Priceline.

Good luck!

I have used Priceline many times, but not for NYC. However, I second using www.biddingfortravel.com website. Go and see what hotels others have gotten and for what price. That will give you a guideline on how much to bid. As escape said, there is a lot of information on that site regarding Priceline bidding and how to re-bid if your bid comes back rejected. Good luck, let us know how you do!

I agree about using Biddingfortravel.com. But, when you request help, be sure that you have read all of the FAQs first and filled out their form properly or the owner/moderator of the board will ream you big time. It's the best for getting the information and saving money, but it is no where near as friendly as most boards - it's more no nonsense.
