A friend of mine has asked to help her plan her Disney trip. They are going to be a huge group - are looking at about 6 rooms. There's probably a total of about 15 kids between ages 10 months and 15 years old - all but two are kindergarten and above. They want to stay on-site. They will be there 5 nights. What do you think?

Pop Century or All-Star Movies - great themes and icons for kids.

What time of year do they want to go?

I think you should explain to your friend the different "flavors" Disney resorts come in, Value, Moderte, Deluxe, Ft Wilderness, and the Vacation Club (villa's). Then let her decide what amenidies they'd like based on the price range of each.

Guess I really didn't give you enough info, huh? Sorry!

Price is definitely an issue, as Grandpa is paying for everyone - but I really don't think they are going to be happy with the value resorts. I was kinda leaning towards POR because of the trundles, as some of the families have three kids. I guess what I was really wondering if there were suites or any other type of rooms that might be better accomodations for this large group than 6 standard rooms. That's all we've ever stayed at ourselves, so I'm not sure what else is out there. Something along those lines may be out of their price range anyway. I can't see them paying for a Deluxe resort for this many people. I think the moderates is going to be their limit.

They will be there in January (5 nights) - at least one family will be a FL resident and will have an annual pass - possibly more - not sure until I talk to her more. How many rooms can an AP holder or FL resident book - isn't it two? Or could they book all of them under their name?

I believe that each AP holder can book four rooms in their name. It sounds like POR might be a good choice since they have trundles.

If it turns out they are the only family with APs - could the wife book three rooms and the husband book three rooms?

I think POR would be a great choice...also consider doing OKW to compare prices...You could do 2-2BR Suites...I can't recall if they have 3 BR suites...but it would be fun for the cousins to sleep together on the sofabeds....and with that many people it is nice to have living quarters to hang around at...rather than just a hotel room. When we travel with other family members we just really like staying at a Villa type resort....January should get you some good rates.....start calling now and apply the AP rate or use the BDP rate

If they are AP holders you should be able to get 2-2BR Suites without any trouble. Just make sure you put ALL their names on the reservations so there is not a problem having staggered check-ins...if they are not all on there you might run into the problem of not being able to check in before the primary gets there.

Also, since this is a magical Gathering (8+ people) you might want to look at some packages...it might work out better for you...but I definitely like having a living room to veg and a kitchen for organizing any extra meals.

Maybe the wilderness villas. I've never stayed there before, but they may be able to accomadate a large group, and it may be cheaper to rent one or two villas, than to rent out 6 rooms!!!

By far, the best alternative , In my opinion, would be a grand villa using one of the DVC members to rent points. They are amazing with full kitchens, great dining rooms, huge living room and sleeping accomodations for 12 plus whoever you want in cribs or sleeping bags (Disney only provides bedding and towels for 12 plus those in cribs only.

If you need to you could add studios , one bedrooms or two bedrooms to accomodat everyone. These units are somewhat difficult to get because there is a limited number of them

We have helped families in the past by allowing them to rent points and loook forward to continue to do this for the next couple of years. Tahe families that we have helped havehave been really really happy with the accomodations.

It probably is the most cost effective option also, especially with this many people.
