I have been struggling with the exercise part of my weight loss program for a few months now. I have a Pilates tape that I love, but the puppy thinks Pilates is just playing on the floor with Mom time. I was starting to walk, but as of yesterday allergy season kicked in big time and I don't go out unless necessary :( and I belong to Curves but can't seem to get motivated to go.

Suggestions? Help??

I have a WONDERFUL support buddy ( Holly!) but need all the help I can get.
What do you do?
Do you have a regimen?
Set goals?
All I want to do is eat :( :( :(

I hear ya loud and clear, Cathy! I also have to force myself to exercise. Even Curves, which I really love!

I play games with myself. Sometimes it's that if I don't go exercise, I have to scrub the toilets or something equally disgusting. (And if you had any idea how much I don't like housework, you'd know how well this works for me!)

When things really get bad, I tell myself I can't get on the computer till after I've exercised! (This is drastic, I know, LOL!!)

I actually look forward to going to Curves most of the time, now. I see a lot of the same people there all the time, and even though I don't know most of their names, they're my new friends! :D

After you get into it, you will look forward to exercising, because it feels so darned good.

Hope this helped at least a little.

Hey CC...come join us trining for the marathon in 2005!!!

I am about to go to the gym in a few, but here is what I usually do

Frist thing in the morning
25-35 minutes of different crunches(daily)

lunch hour
a 3 or 4 mile walk(daily)

Everyother night
Nautilus 14 machines...2 sets of 12 repetitions
and some free weights mostly for my arms
and one mile on the treadmill at 4.0 mph at 7.5 incline :)

Take the girls to family swin and swim 2 times a week.

Sunday...nothing...day of rest :)

I use fitday.com to track my food and exercis...so I see how many calories and carbs I take in, and how many I burn...a great incentive when those graph lines are far apart :)

I hate to get there, but once I am there the I have to get through and finish mindset sets in, and I go to it. Getting out of the house is my battle :) :)

Wish you were closer I would drag you to the gym with me, I would love the company...my poor DD kassie gets dragged, she thinks I am nuts:) Can't wait to fit into a size 4...my next goal, though a while away(just got into a 6) is worth shooting for :) :)

Good luck CC!!! I know you can do it!!!

I simply make myself excercise!! I actually have gotten to where I don't mind it to much because I am seeing really god results with the wieght loss and I know that is a big part of it!! Just don't tell DH. It used to be he would bribe me. I could have 15 minutes of computer time for every x amount I excercised!! Man did I do my excercising!! You just have to figure out what works for you. I am not saying it will always be fun or always be what you want to do but hey we have all been there!!! You can do it Cathy!!!!

Hi Cathy!
I am sorry the exercise part is challenging. Perhaps you could give yourself some motivation? I don't really like drinking water, but I have told myself that I can not have any diet soda until I drink 3 water bottles. Girl, I LOVE diet cokes so the water gets in each and every day.

Have you tried the WATP tapes? I really really really like them! The one mile isn't difficult to get started on (and I probably have 75 pounds still to lose). I bet you will be surprised at how fun it is! It is easy to get addicted to those tapes. You can pop one in whenever you want and it can take only 15 minutes! I also have terrible allergies, as well as asthma, so you won't catch ME outside walking! WATP is the way for me!! Now I just need a 4 mile tape. ;)

Another option could be signing up for an Alex Custom Challenge! He really has a way of getting people going! :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: We're here for you!

glo, you are a wild woman!! :) That sounds like a great program, but I really need to break it down one step at a time.

You guys have some great suggestions and I will try them! I don't know where to get those WATP tapes? Are they on infomercials or available at Walmart? We don't have Targets here. :(

Thanks again for your help, guys!

me a wild woman?? Oh come now CC, I am quiet, shy, sweet and innocent :teeth: :)

Now that I am in this routine, it is not to bad, but I have to push myself to get started...it is getting started that I have to push myself, once started I am fine :)

Hello Cathy!! I'm another avid WATP tapes user. I do the 2 mile first thing in the morning and believe me I spend about 10 minutes in bed trying to talk myself out of it first, drag myself out, get ready, and a few minutes after I've got the tape going I'm so motivated that I'm thinking I should be doing the 3 mile. I have the newest set of tapes WATP Express that comes with a stretch band. I love the tapes but the band turned my hands purple so I replaced it. They're good because you can start the 2 mile and if after a mile you think you've had enough you can stop and fast forward to the stretches - same with all the tapes. I also have WATP with the weighted balls (another favorite). I ordered both of mine through her official website www.walkawaythepounds.com and have loved it. I think it's a good way to motivate you to do more and best of all you don't have to leave the house!

Cheers!

I can't get motivated to exercise either. I have an elliptical trainer and I don't have the excuse of bad weather to keep me from doing it.

I just need to make up my mind and do it!

If you learn the secret for staying motivated to work out, will you please share it with me?

The best motivation for me is finding an exercise buddy, this way it is harder to give excuses when you are accountable to someone else.

I go to the gym three days a week and do my cardio and weight training. I have set days (Monday, Wednesday and Thursday) that I automatically incorporate in my weekly schedule and I do not let anything but emergencies alter my plans. In the beginning going to the gym was a chore, but the longer I am dedicated to going the easier it gets. On my off days from the gym I walk, and not all outside. I bought a pedometer and I make sure I walk at least 10,000 to 15,000 steps a day (don't laugh, but if I fall short at the end of the day, I walk around my house to make up the difference before bed.)

Good luck, all it takes is a little commitment and motivation.

Cathy,
I can't say that I remember seeing the individual tapes at Walmart but I know that I saw the 3 tape set (with the weighted balls) at Walmart. It was on the bottom shelf. I hope you can find them! I love them THAT much!!!! :teeth:

Me too Cathy. I am hoping that by mid-week, I will have a VCR so I can Walk away the pounds again. :) But I can not seem to get the motivation to do something else in the mean time.

For me the biggest motivation to exercising is to just do it. But to get over the initial hurddle of just doing it is a hard one. For me once I have workout for a few days in a row, I crave and even in some physco way look forward to it.

Thanks, everyone! Your support is just what I need! :)

Another WATPs fan here!! This is how bad I was. About maybe two years ago, I'd ordered the tapes with the weighted balls from QVC. They sat unopened in the original box. How bad is that? When I joined WISH, I finally took them out of the box and started doing the one mile tape and it actually got easy. I do two miles without a problem and the three is more of a challenge. But I actually enjoy them!

And Leslie Sansone is such a sweetie. Always very encouraging.

Good luck Cathy - I know you'll find something you can say you enjoy.

Howdy, CC!

What worked for me was to add exercise gradually. When I first joined WISH (before I got smart and started WW!) I was power walking with my DH and my sister every night after work. Then I started WW and kept up with the power walking. I was losing every week but still felt fluffy. :)

I know the benefits of resistance training are great, but I let my hand weights stay dusty. One day I FINALLY picked them up (after talking about it for a while). The I asked my PM buddy ohMom to make sure I used my weights on a regular basis. Knowing I have to report to her about my workout routine was enough to keep me going!

Then I read that YOU were doing pilates, and a whole bunch of other people were doing it too. I had the tapes (dusty, too much dust in my house!) ;) I tried the 20 minute tape and decided to do that one 3 times a week.

Then I read in Muscle and Fitness HERS about doing 45-60 minutes of cardio per day to kick things up. I have rollerblades (also collecting dust, imagine that!) so I decided to rollerblade in the morning as well.

Now I am very addicted to all these things!!! I have seen remarkable changes over the last few weeks. I rollerblade about 4 mornings a week. Then I come home, cool off, do my pilates tape (working up to the 50 minute twice a week). I do pilates at least 5 times a week now. I LOVE it and miss my workout on my pilates free day. I also weight train at least 5 days a week, trying to hit each body part twice a week. Then I power walk with my DH and sister at night. Fortunately, I can fit all this into my schedule... :)

Good luck! Just add it back into your life gradually. That's what worked for me. I know if I had decided from day 1 to do all these things every day, I would have given up and said no way.
