Hi everyone. I'm new here so I need some suggestions. I'm a college student planning a short vacation in Dec. Nobody will accompany me to Walt Disney World, but I am still thinking of staying at a moderate resort instead of value resort. I want a nice room and great swimming pools. I also want a resort which is conveniently located near major theme parks. Themed and quiet resort is sort of a "must" for me since I want to escape the hustle and bustle of college life. Also, I'd like a resort which offers many recreational activities. Which moderate resort is likely the best for me? Thanks in advance everyone.

:welcome:

CSR is a very nice resort. Great main pool area, transportation and food. Check out my CSR website below for pics and info.

Ditto on CSR!! Very nice resort with lots of amenities, terrific transportation and an awesome main pool area.

Welcome to the DIS!

CSR is a great resort for its looks and amenities. The draw backs are that it is a conference resort and it is only close to DAK and kind of close to Hollywood Studios.

Port Orleans Riverside is very peaceful but part of that is because of how large it is. This may not be typical but I toured that place and the CM got lost going back to the front desk. For that, I will not go back to stay.

Carribbean Beach is a very nice resort but it also has more families there so it has a tendency to be louder.

My choice is French Quarter. It is small and compact enough to not be overcrowded. It is very easy to get from point A to point B. They have a great pool and slide, Scat Cats Club (if you like Jazz) and the boat launch to take you to DTD.

I really enjoyed staying there and do hope I get to again real soon.

CSR would be my choice. I've have no issues at all with the convention aspect. IMO, it helps with keeping the crowds down at the pool and on the buses. I love the Pepper Market too!

My vote goes to CSR....Yes it's a conference resort but that's good for you... People will be in their conference the majority of the day and you'll have the pool and bus to yourself :thumbsup2

I've been there for two seperate conferences and while I was getting my knowledge...DH & DS had a blast at the pools, lake, and moving around in the buses to the different parks. They didn't have to worry about the buses getting too full.

Take a look at Buzz2001 site on his responses ..http://coronado_springs.tripod.com. He hit everything on the nail.

Hope you have a great time on your trip to Disney!!!

CBR is my favorite moderate!! I love the theming....it is my vacation to tropical paradise during my vacation to the Mouse!!

I'd suggest either POFQ or CSR.

CSR, POR, and CBR are all large. That means lots of walking and multiple bus stops at each. None of them are particularly FAST, IMO, in terms of getting to the parks quickly. At CSR, the staff riding on golf carts will pick you up periodically. They will not at either of the other two. CBR is supposed to get a very nice main pool, but it won't open until September 15th (if on time). DO look at the resort maps - you'll see each of these large resorts has a lake in the middle of it. You'll have to walk around that lake repeatedly: pretty, but long.

None of the mods are especially close to the major parks, not like the deluxe resorts anyhow.

POFQ is more compact. It isn't especially close to a major park, but is close to DTD, and does feature a water taxi to DTD; Pleasure Island your thing? It is also a sister to POR, so you can easily hop over there to eat.

The downside of POFQ is the dining. It's not the biggest or the best, IMO. the food there just didn't appeal to our family that much. That's the plus of CSR. It has great food, and a great themed pool, a really big hot tub, and per it's status as a convention resort - several good choices for getting adult beverages.

Based on the amenities you described.....I think perhaps the resort that would best suit your desires would be WL. It's at the low end of the deluxes, so it might be something to consider, or at least price. You can't really go wrong at any Disney resort.

POFQ!!! Its beautiful, great fun pool, mardi gras themed-perfect-you'll love it!

I think the POFQ does not attact quite so many families, that might keep the noise down a bit although if you go in early Decmber most of the resorts will be rather light. A big advantage of POFQ (Riverside too but it is a bit large) is the boat ride to Downtown. This opens up all the DTD rstaurants and shops in a rather nice boat ride that avaoids busses.

I'd go with CSR because it has the best pool and slide to go along with the terrific transportation. The resort itself is gorgeous.

CSR!! I love the pool and slide (yes, adults can use it to). It's great! The hot tub area is nice and set apart from the pool but still close enough to the action.

The buses are some of the best I've experienced at WDW. Four quick stops around the resort and it's off to the parks. All quick rides because CSR is centrally located.

The food options at CSR are fantastic! I love being able to pick and choose from so many different options.

We have visited all the mods (we have walked the grounds, eaten at the food courts, etc.) and think they all have their own special charm. We, however, prefer the CSR. We love the themeing, the main pool/hot tub/quiet pools, the walkways, the food court, the spa/fitness center, the quietness of the resort.

You did mention December. December can be iffy on swimming. Sometimes it's inthe 80's, but not always. In '06 we went during Thanksgiving and the week after. There was a freeze warning the first two nights we were there. At the end of the trip it was in low 80's. If it is cool, and you want to swim or use the hot tub, you'll appreciate a compact resort.

I'd go with POFQ. In fact, I just got back from a solo trip (May 3rd-10th) and stayed at POFQ. It's the smallest resort, so everything is close. There is only one bus stop in POFQ and it is the first bus stop, before PORS, so you'll always be guaranteed a seat on the bus going to the parks and it is also the first stop on the way back from the parks at night. Since they are sister resorts you can use the pools at either PORS or POFQ. You have the boat to DTD, so would have easy access to shopping and the clubs at PI. I've stayed at POFQ, CBR, and CSR and POFQ has always been the quietest of all of them. POFQ also has the jazz piano player at the Scat Cat's Club. Oh, yes, POFQ also has beignets for breakfast (or any other time you want a bite of New Orleans heaven):cloud9: .
