My DD wants to be a cheerleader for Halloween. She is invited to a party tonight and of course will wear it tomorrow night. Due to finance I could not purchase one until today (payday).........so any ideas? Target does not have any, Walmart all out, drug stores no luck. I could make one(can sew) if needed but will need a pattern and then purchase material.

The biggest part is the pom-poms. She wants the small ones and I have no idea where to get them.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks

I have seen pompoms at the Dollar Store. They aren't very full, though. I know they carry the mylar bag stuffing at the Dollar Store. Maybe you could get a few bags of that and make pompoms.
I was at our local thrift store yesterday and there were a lot of teens getting stuff for Halloween costumes. A few girls were pulling short skirts from the racks and were using them for cheerleadre costumes. Combine it with a sweater or a tank-ish type top and you are good to go.

I got pom poms at the dollar store for a cheerleader comedy bit I did a few months ago. They were a little thin, but they certainly did the trick.

Same thing at our thrift 2 days ago. I actually found a poodle skirt someone must have made sometime ago for Halloween...

Does your area have one of those pop-up halloween costume stores that arrive in late summer?

We got my DD's cheerleader costume there, and the costume came with pom-poms. It looks like they just cut a whole bunch of ribbons, taped them together to form a handle, and there you go.

Here's some info, too. http://www.ehow.com/how_2055959_make-cheerleading-pom-poms.html

You could get a sweat suit, and sew a letter on the front of a T-shirt for the costume? Unless she wants one of the little skirts -- you could check for a tennis outfit at a sports store.

Best wishes.

Do you know anyone who was/is a cheerleader? Maybe you could borrow and just use safety pins to take in? Not sure what age your daughter is-so not sure how small it would need to be. My daughters are in high school and both have cheerleading outfits from middle school - so maybe you could find someone like them that are holding on to it!

Gosh I wish I'd known yesterday, you could have borrowed one od DD20s. Heaven knows, she hasn't looked at any of the cheer, dance or majorette costumes we were forced to buy back then in years now. Overnight shipping would have been cheaper than buying one. I know how frustrating it can be to find things gone when you need them, that's why DD8 was a spiderwitch two years in a row.:guilty:

Did you look in the toy depts of target/walmart/TRU also? I remember seeing poms in the toy sections before at other times of the year.

For the costume itself, maybe use a Tshirt/skirt or tennis style dress and add a letter to it?
