I am usually very good at this, but I think I need your help! We just got a new horse donated to my farm for use in our Special Olympics program. He's super cute, with a smart and sweet disposition. He is a dark bay (for those of you not familiar with horse color terminology, this means he is a VERY dark brown...almost black, with a black mane and tail, black legs and a light brown muzzle). Dh and I tend to name all of our horses and other pets after characters on the Simpsons (we have a Homer, Mr. Burns, Milhouse, Itchy, Scratchy etc). However, the head of the Sp. Olympics doesn't particularly care for human names for the horses  . The horse's current name is "Rocker" because of his rocking chair-like canter. We all agree that name has to go! We' d accept Disney names too!

I so far like the following:

Jack (because his coloring reminds me of a mule...and mules are called "jacks". Plus it's a cute name and seems to suit him. AND DH and I are total Jack Black fans).

Ralphie (after Ralphie Wiggum on the Simpsons)

Stewie (after Stewie Griffin on "Family Guy")

Brego (he looks like Aragorns horse, Brego from LOTR)

Suggestions made by my students:
Brownie (boring, but he does look like brownie batter in color!)

Some more suggestions guys!!! We have Sp. Olympic practice tonight and I need a name for him before the athletes show up. Otherwise if I have to let the kids/athletes name him, we'll wind up with a horse named "Ketchup" or "Fire Truck", bless their hearts.

I do like the LOTR one...its pretty

but im a DISer...so im adding in some disney
- prince
-beast
-pongo
-tramp

yeah..thats it for now!

My DD is a Sleeping Beauty/Aurora freak...Sampson is Prince Philip's horse's name.

I like the LOTR name too.

Tramp.

Bogart

Not feeling inspired...
I'll keep thinking.

how about Rick, or RickNYC :teeth:

Off your list I like Ralphie best it sounds cute :goodvibes

:sunny:

Jodie

Trooper, after our Connemara pony that is over 40 years old! We use him for our handicapped riding program, and he is the BEST! This would be a great way to honor a great horse since you will be using your guy for Special Olympics!

Since you like Jack Black......how about Black Jack? You could call him Jack for short? But the black goes with his coloring.

Here are some ideas
Prince (Lisa Simpson had a horse named princess)
Tornado (Zorro's horse)
Edmund (Aunt Manya's imaginary pony, from Seinfeld)
Duncan (also known as Furious D, from The Simpsons)
Argo (from Xena: Warrior Princess)
Boxer (from Animal Farm by George Orwell)
Comet (Supergirl's pet horse)
Khan (a horse from Disney's Mulan)
Philip (a horse from Disney's Beauty and the Beast)
Achilles (horse of Captain Phoebus in Disney's "The Hunchback of Notre Dame")

Oooh...you guys ARE good! I had thought about "Furious D" (aka Duncan), but I think the humor would be lost on my fellow coaches. Naming him after a Dis'er...now that would be an honor (especially considering how much joy these kids get from the horses!). Rick, would be cute...or Obi-Wan Pinobi, or MrFDNY, or Flower's Child..the choices are endless! Today I posed the question to our team and the kids gave me a few good ones.

Oxer/Ox (though the kid was actually telling his mom to set up an "oxer", which is a type of jump and someone overheard him and thought that would make a cute name).

Horatio (don't ask! LOL! One of the athletes liked it)

Bo (partially for my lust for Bo Bice, but afterall "Bo knows...")

Luke (skywalker that is)

Merry/Pippen (we already have a Sam and a Frodo)

Ozzy/Oz (...as in Osbourne)

Harry

Neo

Spiderman (LOLLOLOLOLOL)

Anything striking anybody yet?? He still looks like a Jack to me, but I'm having a hard time convincing the others (even though he'll be living with me and essentially be MY horse!).

I like the suggetion of Bullseye after Toy Story, and Brownie just because it sounds like a name a child would come up with! :goodvibes

Could you have a contest for the kids to name the horse? That might be fun for them!

How about:

Espresso
Spirit
Chocolate
Coco
Hershey

Since he looked like a Jack to you, how about Captain Jack (Sparrow)?

I loved Bullseye also.
