HELP! My son did it again.

My Disfriends never disappoint, so I thought I would come here first. My 6 year old ds decided to give himself a mohawk with VASELINE. This stuff will not wash out. Any suggestions. He would not go to school he is so upset over this.

What have you used? You need a grease cutter, so I would use dishwashing liquid repeatedly until it comes out.

Like the PP, I'd suggest something like a strong dish soap (not dishwasher soap).

Shampoo mixed with baking soda. Make a paste, massage it in, rinse, repeat if necessary. Works every time.

I've read that you need to something to absorb it - the the baking soda a PP suggested, or cornstarch. Then you wash it.

The other important thing is to use hot water, or at least as warm as you can on a little one. Cold makes it worse.

If you're OK with mohawks, egg whites work really well and come out easily. Just don't apply heat!

Baking soda and very warm water were going to be my suggestions as well. I wonder if something like Dawn dishsoap might help also...

DS did this a few years ago. I scrubbed baby powder into the scalp really well to "bond" with the vaseline, then washed with Dawn and really warm water. It took about 2 washings to get most of it out, but he still had an oily look about him for a few more days!

My younger daughter does this about once every three months. Rubbing alcohol works the best for us.

Thank goodness when dd did this as a toddler it was not her hair, it was all over her body.
Try to chase her down and grab her is like wrestling with a greased pig. Everytime I tried to lift her to the sink to hose her off I slipped my grip. It took paper towels, and Dawn then baby Johnsons baby bath soap, just to make her fresh, to finally get it off.

dawn dish detergent works wonders. unfortunately i know this because when my son was about 3 he "styled" my mom's hair with vaseline while she was watching him i told her she was the best grandma ever to allow that!!!

Another vote for Dawn. That stuff is amazing.

I actually called the 800 number on the back and told them they should market it as shampoo. I ran out of shampoo once and used Dawn, and I couldn't believe how clean my hair was!

Thanks everyone All your ideas are great. I ended up using Dawn and then took him to the hair salon and got him a buzz cut. He has a great shaped head and now he thinks he looks like an "Army Guy" He is loving it. I will try to post a before and after photo if I can figure out how to do it.
