Help my poor nose! Warning - TMI!!

BE CAREFUL!!!!

I woke up with a sore on my nose after a terrible allergy attack the night before. I put vaseline, neosporin, and cold sore medicine on it, and it only got worse.

Turns out, I had a staph infection!!!

I never would have guessed that! I happened to run into a friend and his wife who are both doctors, and they told me to go straight to Urgent Care!

Was it on the inside or outside of your nose?

I've used vaseline or eucerin. The other thing that I do is use saline spray to irrrigate the nose. Then I'm not blowing my nose as much.

(my problem lately has been pimples inside the nose. yuck.)

I would try lanolin, I know that nursing mothers use this when they get sores while nursing. They sell it at target by all the nursing supplies. Be careful, I know that Staph is going around and that staff lives in your nose, just really try to keep them clean.

Both. And even though *I* couldn't tell it was staph, it was VERY easily identified by the doctors, nurses and PAs . It's a form of staph called cellulitis. You can probably find a pic of it somewhere on the net.....???

Don't rub Vicks on a chapped, sore nose. It'll hurt like heck!! Burn and sting.

Clean the area thoroughly with soap and water. Then apply some anti-bacterial ointment with pain reliever on the whole area. Basically anywhere in your nose that your finger can reach is fine to put the anti-bacterial ointment.

Do this 3 or 4 times per day and it should be better in a day or 2...not necessarily 100% better, but it should be starting to feel better and look better.

If it doesn't, call your doctor because you could have a staph infeciton and need Batroban, which is Rx.

i get sores in my nose every time i have a sinus infection, and the neosporin w/ pain reliever works GREAT. i highly recommend it.

Where do you find this?

Rite-Aid but I think many places carry it.

It's made byLee Pharmaceuticals

Active Ingreds are Allantoln,Camphor,Menthol
AlsoContains : Eucalyptus oil ,lanolin ,Vit E and a few other things.

It's for the inside and outside of the nose

It also states it can be used on Dry Chapped Lips

 OK, now your freaking me out!

It is only inside my nose and it is something that happens quite often when I get runny noses. But this is the worst I have ever had it. This is the worst I have had a stupid cold too.:sad2: I will try the neosporin because that is what we have and see what happens.

Kristine

Does it only happen when you have or have had a cold?
I get those occasionally, often when I am rundown. They are basically like cold sores, but inside the nose. PAINFUL as heck! My Dr gave me a prescription for Zovirax-Ointment that I rub on the area as soon as I feel it beginning.makes a big difference to how bad they get and how long they last. Hope you feel relief soon...:sad2:

Kind of. I happens when I have a runny nose or a cold. It is like the snot (I know gross) burns my skin inside. That is what it feels like anyway. But it sounds just like what your describing. Also, it only happens when it is really dry outside.

Well, think about it. When you have a cold, you ARE already run down! Cold sores are caused by the Herpes Virus..same thing on the Lip or the nose. When I am tired, have been sick, at the tail end of a cold, that's when I am vulnerable and they flare up. So sore...I cannot bare to touch my nose. The are often inside, but sometimes they kinda come to the outside of the nostril and apart from looking LOVELY they hurt like crazy and do scab over. Nasty things....

Yep, that sounds just about right. It they kill me. Even to just move my nose hurts. Like the skin in my nose is streching or something.

Until you can mention to your Dr, you might want to try an over the counter cold sore med GENTLY applied with a Q-tip. You have my TOTAL empathy as I so know how it hurts. Yep, even the outside hurts to the touch. My nostril actually swells when they are really bad....don't I sound beautiful?? LOL

I tried the Neosporin last night and it was much better when I woke up. Not 100%, but at least better.:)

I get this when I am stressed out too. The neosporin helps, but I have found that taking L-Lysine (it's a vitamin supplement) helps me to actually clear them up faster. If I take L-Lysine daily starting when I first feel it coming on, I can head it off.

so glad to hear the neosporin worked for you! it always does the trick for me. it was recommended by my ENT doctor. thankfully it's relatively inexpensive (you can get the wal-mart brand) and easy (just a dab on a q-tip rubbed in each nostril-never touch a dirty q-tip to the tip of the tube).
