Help My Flights Went Down On Sw - Now What?

Okay, I have a question. I booked our flights to Orlando two weeks ago on Southwest. Our fare is $226 (plus tax) roundtrip. I see this morning that the flights went down to $198 (+ tax). The cheaper flights are available if I change my outbound and return by one day. Can I do this? Do they give you the difference in vouchers? Is there any penalty?

Obviously, I have to work fast - or these new fares will disappear.

Please help!

The best thing to do is call SW. I know you can book new ones online, open second window, cancel first reservation, then apply credit given to new one.

However, when I called, they actually issued me a refund check! I was still able to rebook online.

Give them a call and see what happens.

If the worst is a credit, then you'll have to go back to WDW sooner than expected.;)

Go to the travel center on Southwest's site. Click on change itenarary. Follow the prompts. They have made it much easier to change this stuff . It is a recent change.

Gail:

Thanks for the help. I clicked on Change Itinerary and was able to make my changes and save almost $80.

It was very easy - Southwest is great for this!!!

Thanks again!

Hi,
Anytime!!! The savings is really nice, good for you!!!!

I was just getting ready to ask the same question (this board is so helpful!). However, my situation is a little different. I want to keep the same flight schedule but just get the cheaper fare (can save almost $20 per person). Can I do this or do I need to actually be making a change in my itinerary? Thanks!

I ordered my airline tickets two months ago. One day i check the website and the cost for the same flight i was taken had dropped by 7.oo dollars per ticket. I simply called the airline told them i had purchased a ticket and the rate had went down since i purchased mine. She took all of my info and issued me a voucher for the difference. She said she could not refund me the money because my fare was non refundable but she could issue me a voucher for the difference. which she did. I got the voucher in the mail 3 days later. i hope this helps. while i did this through ata i think most airlines have the same guidelines.

Every airline has different ways of handling these issues. SWA, which is what we are talking about here, allows you to make changes to your plans, rebook at lower fares and change times, flights, days, weeks, and etc. without penalty. They issue a credit which can be used on future flights within one year of first issue.

Hi,
Have not seen my airfare drop yet!!! LOL, but, give it a try. Worse case, you will have to cancel your present reservations, after making sure your flights are available and rebooking. I have done the old way a bunch of times and have never had a problem with it. In fact, that is what most SWA reservationists tell you to do. Some will do it for you, but, that is rare and during non busy times.

Thank you Gail for replying. I tried to get the lower fare online but it would not let me do it because I was not actually changing my itinerary. So, I called SWA and the rep did it for me. And since it was only a change in price, not my schedule, I will be getting the refund credited back to my credit card. WOO HOO!! I know it is only $80, but I think I can put it to good use somewhere in WDW. :teeth: Geez, I get a refund and I am already planning a way to spend it. Don't tell my hubby! ;)

Hi,
Thanks for the info and the mention of the refund. Much better than a credit out there and much better than a voucher. :)
Nope, won't tell your DH, my lips are sealed. ;)
