So a few years back I splurges and bought my Dyson sweeper. I loved it. It picked up so much from our carpets it was amazing.

About 1 month ago, it did not seem to be working right. It does not "suck" up as much as before leaving my floors looking dirty.

I googled how to clean my Dyson. I took most of it apart, cleaned, dried, etc. but it still does not work.

I don't have an extra $400 to buy a new one. Any suggestions?

even though the commercials say there is no filter- there is! we had to replace ours

I had the same problem years ago, I took it to someone that worked on Dyson's he said they are great but once they start to go, there is no fixing them. He was right, the darn thing just wouldn't suck up any dirt. Mine was only 2 years old, I refuse to ever buy another one.

That's terrible.. A $400 vacuum that only lasts 2 years??

The dysons are a rip off, in that the repair parts and filters are very expensive.

not to mention that you are paying a lot of money for plastic snap together vaccume that fails. I had one that lasted only a couple of years. it is now a shop vac in the garage.

for the house, wood floors and carpets, we got a Miele.
(true hepa, etc.)

Have you cleaned the filter at all? I have had my Dyson for about 3 years. I take the filter out and hand wash it about every 6 months or so. It needs to be completely dry before you put the filter back in place. I let mine air dry for about 24 hours. Honestly I can't remember if the salesman told me to do this or if it was in the instruction booklet. But mine works as well today as the day I bought it. :thumbsup2

Yes, you do need to clean and completely dry the filter, that is a good place to start. The customer service 800 number was also very helpful to me when I started having trouble with mine a few years ago. We went through several "tests" to see where it was loosing suction, it seemed to be a gasket on the part that lets you look in the Ubend. They sent me a new part and a new filter free of charge(I think it was out of warranty, but they never mentioned one way or the other).
Since then, and with regular cleaning on my part I have had no trouble. My Dyson is in the 5+ year old range.

We spent over $130 to fix our Dyson - had it for approx 3 years. It does not suck anything up - we have a Aussy and the fur is unbelievable. Don't put money into it - go buy a new vacuum. After it was fixed, within a week it stopped again. This time he didn't know what to do with it when we took it back and complained. He told us to replace it with a different brand.
