I am bringing desert to my inlaws. we are leaving around 1:00 or 1:30 and it takes twenty- thirty minutes to get there. It is now 8am.

I have two pies-
pumpkin- bake for an hour to 75 min- cool for 2

apple- 60-75 min bake, cool for 30 min.

I have always made these very successfully a home (they are soooo good)

My plan is to bake the pumpkin- let it cool
bake the apple let it cool (to handle) and leave.

My concern is.... will these still taste good after sitting around for so many hours? I don't think we are even eating unitl 3 or 4.
I was thinking of warming the apple one before it is served.

They'll be fine! I bake my pies (and yes, I've used Mrs. Smith's) the night before..

Have a great Thanksgiving!!

They'll both be fine. We do the same with the apple pies when we have them though (warm them just before serving) They turn out just fine that way :)

They'll be fine. I cook my Sarah lee pies yesterday. I also would heat the apple before serving. Happy Thanksgiving and enjoy the pies and your day

Thank you for all the quick replies!!!!!!!

I was worried because my DH informs me that they've NEVER had frozen pies! That's all we ever had growing up!

They always use the store bought bakery pies, which I think are tiny and well..... not so good. I always remember the frozen pies being so good!

I was going to bake from scratch, but I was buying ingredients in the store and came to he freezer section in Publix- 2 Mrs Smith's pies for $5! I quickly put everything back!

My kind of gal! Good for you!! ;)

The frozen pies are just as good if not better, I can't make mistakes, just bake and cool. my pies look really nice, I can't wait to eat them.:D

LOL Susy, I did that very same thing once.

Just a quick note--my Mrs. Smith pumpkin pie 2 years ago liquified at the end of the stated baking time. I EMailed them and they sent me a batch of coupons, claiming that "never happens" . But I didn't think anyone in my family wanted pumpkin JUICE pie, so I had to run to the store that was open and buy one.

Their instructions were to bake at 400 for 65-75 minutes. Good if you want charcoal pumpkin pie with a lava center!

Mine started to burn around the edges and was still liquid in the center!!!! AHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
To make matters worse, my mom was at the store without her cell phone!

I turned down the oven and covered the edges with foil. Worked out ok. I had to take it out and the center was still "soft". It stiffened up after cooling for a while, though. Whew! What a save!
:teeth:
