DS is turning 1 on Saturday :wizard: and we are having a party for him. There will be about 55 adults and 20 kids ranging in ages from 6 months- 10 years old. We rented a huge tent, tables and chairs and got a small pool and slip n slide for the kids. We also had the township block off the end of our road so the kids can ride bikes, draw with chalk, etc.

SO far the weather will be holding out which I am very happy about, just nervous as we have never had so many over at one time. The issue is the food- this is the menu:

Hamburgers and hot dogs
Chicken/broccoli casserole (2 pans)
Baked ziti (2 pans)
Kielbasa and Kraut (large crockpot full)

Pasta Salad
Potato Salad
Cole Slaw
Tomatoes, olives and cukes

Birthday cake
Popsicles

Beer, juice boxes, soda and water

Would you add another hot dish? Salad? Dessert? Any opinions on the menu, please let me know. Thanks so much!

Where is the ice cream for the cake....

I might throw in some chips of various kinds, and maybe a fruit salad. Not all people (me :wave2: ) like potato salad, pasta salad, and slaw.

I might add baked beans. Also, maybe some sliced onions and lettuce for the burgers.

Cut up fruit, especially watermelon is always a nice addition.

If it were me I would add a fruit salad, maybe baked beans, more variety of chips and pretzels and maybe some cut up veggies.

Ice cream may be too hard to serve to that big of a group, but I would maybe have some available if someone asked for it.

Here's some pixie dust pixiedust: to help hold off any bad weather. And :bday: to your ds :cake:

I think it sounds like plenty! I would, however, add some basic vegies and with lowfat dip as well as some watermelon. That would give dieters and picky eaters a way to round out thier meal. While I would LOVE everything on your menu, I would have a hard time keeping to my current alloted calorie count.

I think if it were me, I would want to add some things - 55 adults is a lot of people to feed - and then, the kids of course...
The fruit salad/watermelon ideas were good; chips; maybe another large casserole type dish - sorry I can't think of suggestions, I just think I might add some more food. Good luck to you!

I have to agree with AtlantaSue - I don't think you have enough food.

How many hot dogs and hamburgers were you planning on making? - I would probably do 70 hamburgers and 70 hot dogs - remember the ziti is really a side dish in this instance and the kids will gobble that all up -

What I do for big family parties like that is make about 5 boxes of mac n cheese for the kids along with and hot dogs, set that food out about 10 minutes before the rest of the food - let the kids eat.......if the kids want the grown up food, fine, they can have it - but if you serve if all at once and are short on the food to begin with, the kids will waste alot of it.

I would definitely add a vegetable tray with dip or a cold vegetable salad. Also, a fruit salad of some sort or even just sliced watermelon and cantalope. I always go with better to have leftovers than stress about not having enough.

Crap- here is what I forgot to add:

Chips/dip/veggies will be on the table. I'm thinking about 70 burgers and 60 hot dogs. Watermelon, ice cream cups and fruit salad too.

Maybe I need to do baked beans too, what else would you think?
