I read a reference to Disney Rewards on another board and came here to get more information, but I'm even confused looking at the newbie page. What is Disney Rewards and where do I start? Thanks for any info...

Are you thinking of Disney *Awards*? That program is pretty much defunct from what I've heard (and bad news, but that's another discussion).

This site is for discussing various reward programs and how to get the most out of them. And any other "good deals" we find and want to pass along.

Edited to add:

Or were you thinking of the Disney Rewards Visa? Ask away about that. I made a post a while ago with most of the "fine print" from the member guide. But I also keep a copy next to my monitor and can answer *most* of the questions you might have.

Maybe they were referring to the Disney Visa. I suppose I could just go look that up on Google, but it's always good to get the perspective of a real person. What sorts of rewards does that provide? Is it Disney merchandise, or are there rewards at WDW? Otherwise, I see that this message board deals with Disney-related discounts, contests, etc. Got it! Thanks!

hi welcome to the rewards board..

you are in the right place to talk about rewards programs of all kinds.

What Sue was trying to get across is that "Disney Awards" WAS a reward program that is now gone. And the owner of that program disappeared owing alot of us alot of money. Just so that you know we do not only discuss Disney related contest, deals, & discounts here.

Please feel free to stay awhile and ask more questions we all will be glad to help...but stay away from Disney Awards like Sue said it is BAD news.

Disney Visa (in a nut shell--or at brief as I can be) has no annual fee and gives you 1% of all purchases as points toward Disney Dream Reward Dollars. So for every $1 you spend, you get $0.01 worth of DDRD. I know it doesn't sound like much, and some cards may reward better, but I'm sticking with this one for now. I charge everything (gas, groceries, etc.) to it, and pay it off every month. I've had mine since the end of March, and we already have 17 pts or DDRD. The first month we had ~$560, so they rounded that up to 6 pts. The second month was around $1120, so they rounded that down to 11 points.

Okay, once you have 20 points you can redeem them for one of 3 things (and you have to specify which one): 1) a reward cert. that can be used at WDW or Disney Cruise Line, 2) a reward cert. that can be used at Disneyland, or 3) a reward card that can be used at US Disney Stores/Disney Catalog/Disney Store online. The certs come in $20 denominiations, the reward cards either $10 or $20. They say they can be used for "most" merchandise, food, park passes, Disney hotels. They have been very vauge about what "most" means. You redeem your points online or over the phone and they mail the certs/cards to you. So allow time for mailing.

I believe the rate is 0% for the first 6 months, but since I plan to pay it off every month I haven't really paid attention to the rates. I think it's also the two-cycle calculation for finace charges, which isn't good, but again, plan to pay it off every month.

There are suppose to be special deals for booking your trip through them and using the card, but I haven't paid attention to those either. We're also waiting to see what kind of special point earning opportunites there are (like extra points for buying "something" with the card).

I hope that helps a little. It's through BankOne. You should be able to go to Disney's site and find a link to the application. People that applied before March 23 got "Cardmember since Day 1" stamped on their card and a Mickey pin with their first charge.

Let me know if you have other questions.

Yeah, I know I can't keep anything short. I tend to ramble....

Thanks eilonway - I started the process for the card today.
