Can anyone please answer some probably asked before silly transfer questions for me or point me to the right thread
1. Can dark transfers be printed on regular Inkjet printers?
2. Do the take a lot more ink than say if I printed them on regular paper?
3. Where can i buy transfer on ebay/ or online?
4. I have 8 adult designs, 4 kid designs and 5 infant designs so can I do with 20 sheets. [some extra for errors]. I am thinking infant size I can do two to a sheet. Is this possible?
And lastly someone is ready to do this whole work for me for 58$ including shipping. Is this a better idea than doing at home?
1. Transfers SHOULD be printed on regular inkjet printers (NOT laser printers).
2. this is just a guess - if you print designs on regular paper instead of transfer paper, the regular paper will absorb the ink more; but the printer should print/spew out ink based on your setting (i.e., draft, normal, best) not based on the paper.
3. I bought HP paper at hpshopping.com; I like that brand best personally after having tried that as well as Avery. And, HP often has "buy 2 - get 1 free" sales with free overnight shipping besides! I'm sure there are other places but this is what I'm most comfortable with.
4. You decide how large you want each design (for instance, I made some Mickey head designs less than 5" so I could put them on a breast pocket. I was able to get more than 1 transfer on a page but I had to be diligent about lining it up so both would fit and then running it through the printer a second time and holding my breath that the paper didn't jam on the 2nd pass through.) I printed from my digital camera's photo software package; however, I would assume you could save the images into MS Word or the like and then put 2 on one page before printing - just be careful of the margins, etc.
Re spending $58 for 17 shirts vs. doing them yourself, only you can answer that question. Numbers wise, it works out to $3.41/shirt plus the cost of the shirts and the transfers. However, you need to factor into the equation whether there's any "pride in ownership" issues where you want to be able to say, "I made these shirts" vs. "I supplied the materials and money and someone else made them for me." Another factor is if you can afford to spend an additional $58 on top of the cost of the shirts and the cost of the transfers. Then there's the comfortability factor. Are you comfortable trying something you never attempted before? Are you willing to give it a go or do you freeze in terror thinking about it? Finally, there's the time factor... if you don't have time to do it then $58 might be a very reasonable cost for you. Again, only you can answer these questions.
BTW, if it's a business that's offering to make the shirts for $58, make sure they see the designs sooner rather than later as they may decline the offer they made when they see that they're Disney-related due to "fear of" copyright infringement as they would be "selling" their services to you. (Most of us on this board don't think there's an issue if we do our own shirts and they're not for sale.)
Good luck and please post pix - especially if you decide to do the shirts on your own.
