Hi my loves:goodvibes . Ok I'm driving myself crazy trying to figure out a stinking centerpiece for our reception. I bought glass bowls, not the basin looking ones.. I want to fill them with rose petals and 3 floating candle with 2 votive candles next to the bowl, one on each side with a rectangular doiley underneath. I just don't know what to do to fill the bowls and I can't find a picture of what I want. I don'[t like the glass beads they seem too plain and blah to me....

I was thinking like some typr of pretty glass beads pink something with some sparkle like AHHH I don't know! I'm driving myself insane over this. I want the bowl half full so that the candles are not floating at top but a little over the middle of the bowl and I think it will look too bare with just rose petals floating up top with candles...I need something that won't float and will stay in the bottom.

Please any of you creative people help me out:worship:

oh and for the kids table I am going to buy one of those really pretty fish, not the gold fish but the one's that are mean and kill other fish if they go in the bowl with them and put that in the middle of thier table and have them play a game and who ever wins gets to take the fish home. I also want to make some type of bag for each kid..what should I put in them..I have 7 kids at a table.

Beta Fish- little known fact: if there are tiny bubbles on the top of the water in the bowl, it means they're happy! :goodvibes

That's what I thought they were called...that is a cute little fact lol!!!

What should I do with the centerpiece?????? AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I'm freaking out LOL

How about adding some food coloring to the water so it does not look so boring? Maybe experiment until you find a pink color you like? That would be a pretty cheap idea!:rotfl2:

I made centerpieces for my cousin's wedding years ago that sounds similar to what you want. We used VERY large brandy snifters for the "bowls". Her colors were black and lavendar/light purple.

I used black marbles in the base (you can get them round or "flattened"). I also hot glued a piece of floral foam on the bottom of the bowl (the marbles covered it) but it allowed me to "suspend" a full rose bud in the bottom of the bowl (with some florists wire stuck in the foam). Then we put the water in, and floated the candles.

I also used etching cream to etch a rose pattern around the top of the bowl. It just added a really subtle touch.

The water magnified the rose bud so it looked really cool.

Anyway, I hope I explained that right...unfortunately I don't have any pictures.

Oh yeah, i didn't really help, did I? :rotfl: Hm. I'd have to think about it some more (I have NO idea what we're doing for ours either! lol). What about sticks? Can you post a pic of the things you bought so I can get a better visual?

Fill it up with pink water and have floating votives on top. A big trend I've seen recently is to have a viney flower (like an orchid) just floating in water under the candles.

Well, how Disney are you going with all of this? You could theme them to something like Ariel's grotto. Have some things that would be in her 'collection' of human stuff, like pearls and shiny stones and cheap neckaces or whatever. The lucky people that find the dinglehopper get an extra piece of cake. Then you could fill it up halfway with the pink water and put your candles on top.

Val used "cracked ice" in her centerpieces for her engagement party, and put little "floralights" inside the "cracked ice" to give it a glow.

We started the cracked ice a day before, it comes in crystals and you add water, you can add food coloring to make them any color you want. The "cracked ice" can be found at a craft store, as well as the floralights.

It was very very pretty, and the floralights (found in the wedding aisle at Michaels) lasted much longer than we thought, like 3 days longer!!!

i don't know...HTH

If you're using fish, be sure to include care instructions and a starter pack of food!

Lynn- Here are some pics of two of my center peices from my e-party. I was really happy with the way they turned out. And they were very easy to make. You just play around with the food coloring to get the color right. I wanted them filled all the way but you could fill them half way and plop the candle on top of the gel and scatter the rose petals on the table.

I have a couple of ideas: the dollar store these really pretty pink beads. They look like "crystals" you can put that at the bottom with your candles floating and some petals, I think somebody suggested this but you could add food coloring to make the water pink.

OR (and this one if my fav) you can buy water activated LED lights to stick at the bottom with petals on the top. For my debutante ball the CP were like that and they were amazing!

Hi Lynn!!! I have a Betta Fish and I think they woudl make a great centerpiece. The have pretty tails and they are tough fish! I forgot to tell my dad to feed my fish while I was gone for this past 9 days and he is still happy as can be blowing his bubbles! They would be great as a centerpiece!!

All of this is making me rethink my centerpieces now...

Actually, Lynn, how is the decision process going?
