Help me with a decision i'm currently struggling with

Ohhhh. I see the problem. He is going to end up working both T-day and over Christmas? I see why the aggravation and venting. I would be a bit miffed too. Did he remind her that he had the time off on the calendar for 7 months?

if it's a union job and he's been promoted then he likely lost all rights to the vacation that was preapproved unless he negotiated it before promoting. it's pretty common in union contracts that once you have a new job classification, even if it's in the same work unit, your pre-existing vacation approvals don't travel to the new position.

So please tell me what you would do would you stay or would you go?
Coming from a family where my father was a firefighter, we had to modify our holidays quite regularly.

I say go if he's okay with it. I would. We would take another day and go shopping and have a special dinner.

I'd stay home. Go shopping online. Decorate for Christmas.

My DH woulld tell me to go away for the Holiday. I would not. I think that under the circumstances i would try to find ways to celebrate the beginning of the Holiday Season at home. I think that there may be many changes your DH is going to need to adapt to for a while so I would want to make sure that the one constant is that we are all together.

Oh, did not know that. I just assumed that in any job,as long as you were within the same company you could keep an already approved vacation--unless there was some very valid reason why not. Well, that is interesting. Why do they have this stipulation?

I agree with this. My DH is in IT and has pretty much worked every Thanksgiving, Christmas in the past 6 years. We don't mind because the holiday pay is awesome and we just celebrate another day.

Honestly my DH would want me to go ahead with my plans if he had to work.

My DH is an Engineer in a plant and he works almost all holidays also. Holidays are great for doing installations because production is usually shut down for at least the day of the holiday. He has already said he will be working 16 hrs on Thanksgiving. He unfortunately DOESN'T get holiday pay.

I would go if I had plans because like above my DH would want us to go and he is usually beat anyway and it is nice to come home and just rest.

Ask him again and believe him because men don't tend to "sacrifice" their feelings to give you the answer you want like women do, so if he says he doesn't care that is what he is feeling. No use of you and your DS sitting around.

That's a bummer. DH will usually get overtime AND holiday pay so he makes a ton by working the holidays. But he just got a promotion and becomes salary now, so no more OT or holiday pay..bummer.

I agree, if a man says "he doesn't care" he really doesn't. So go away and enjoy yourself, he will be ok. People put way too much emotion in celebrating the Holiday on the actual day. Being prior military and having my kids go visit their dad every other holiday we are pros at celebrating whenever we get the chance, sometimes it's the week before or the week after the holiday and everyone is ok with it.
