Help me understand why people do the same cruise multiple times

I've read many posts where people state they are going on the same Disney cruise 5, 10, or more times. Can someone help me understand the rationale behind that? I can understand going on the same cruise twice maybe, but more than that? Why not go on a different cruise line somewhere else? Doesn't it get boring after a while? It's the same ports, perhaps the same entertainment, etc. It's the same ship. I just don't get it.

I don't have the perspective that you are looking for, but it is probably for the same reason that "some people" go to WDW over and over again (see signature). Our cruise isn't until April, but I have a sneeking suspicion we may get "hooked" on DCL like we are on WDW...

I haven't done it yet, but I think about this phenom this way.

We live in a resort town, and people travel EVERY SINGLE WEEKEND from Detroit to drive 5 hours in bumper to bumper traffic to come up here to stay at their cabin or at the Club or at the Hampton Inn. They stay till Sunday morning and then make the 5 hour, bumper to bumper trip home to Detroit. In the summer they bring their golf clubs, in the winter they haul HUGE snowmobile trailers or load the roof of the car with skis.

Some people have a cabin somewhere, or a house in Florida, or stay at the same hotel week after week in the same town.

I think that the people who are doing more than one or even lots of cruises are just like the peple who travel every weeknd to their favorite town to do their favorite sport. These people just don't get to do it every weekend, and they might have to fly, and then they get to spend 3, 4 or 7 days aboard a cruise ship with amazing food, spa, pools, broadway shows, etc, all in one place.

I WANNA GROW UP AND BE LIKE INKOGNITO!!!

Hope this helps answer your cosmic questions! :D

Disney was my first cruise and I absolutely fell in love with the boat. It set my expectations SO high that I am afraid to go on a different cruise line for fear that I might be let down. Plus, for a boat that I know I'm going to have a blast on, my 2nd cruise (9/21-9/28, 7 night E. Caribbean, Magic) was cheaper than the exact same cruise on Carnival:)

I can understand where you are coming from. I will be going on my 11th cruise this March 16th. I have cruised 6 times on Carnival, 1 time on Celebrity, and soon to be 4 times on DCL. We took our children on one Carnival after a DCL cruise and they disliked the line. DCL spoiled them so that is why we have cruised the same itinerary soon to be 4 times. There is a lot of different choices for activities when in port and there is no way one can do all choices doing a cruise once or even twice. I have been to St. Thomas 4 times and I still have not been to any beaches there or have I been over to St. John's. This cruise we will go to a beach in the morning.

1 Ecstasy 4 day western
2 Fantasy 3 day Bahama
2 Imagination 4 day western
1 Imagination 5 day western (different ports than 4 day Imagination)
1 Magic 4 day Bahama
2 Magic 7 day eastern with no. 4 this month, 3/16
1 Celebrity southern (out of San Jaun)
We do have the new 7 day western booked for March 2003

We are a blended family and a cruise has proven to be the best vacation choice for us. All six of us are in such a great mood while on a ship. Our oldest son does not travel with us since he is now 21 and in 2003 our "twin" boys will not be traveling with us because they will be in college. We will have our daughter who will be 10 so I expect we will continue to cruise Disney in the future. We do cruise other lines but Disney is our choice when cruising with children. Kathy 7days and counting down until we leave on 3/15!!!

Why - Because I can :D :) :D :) :D

Actually we have been on three cruises with Disney so far and each one has been different in its own way. There is so much to do on the ship. Even though we stopped at the same island, there are different excursions to take. The speaker are different each time and they do change the shows occasionally (i will not like it if Disney Dreams is changed).

Number 4 is coming up in two month - Different ports of call, but the same ship again.

I've been to WDW 7 times with my family within an 8 year time period. We are going to do our second Disney Cruise next Feb. My family's view is that we love our Disney trips and have a blast. We have done a few other vacations, but don't seem to get the same level of that "happy feeling" that we get at Disney. So we feel like "if it's not broke, don't fix it". We love Disney, have a great time vacationing with Disney and can't wait to do it again next year. Perhaps when the kids are grown I will feel differently, but hey, there's always the grandkids to take to Disney when our kids grow up.

Because the second you step off the ship, the first thing you want to do is go again!!!!

I think that people that take the same cruise over and over again are very aware of the other options available (you could research something to death on the internet), yet choose to stick with what they know and love. And why not? If it's not broke, don't fix it!

Most people probably have a favorite restaurant they they visit several times a year, at least (even though there are many other restaurants available). This is like that but on a grander scale.
If there was a really great restaurant that you loved, that matched your taste completely, and there were also a few restaurants that were OK but not as great, why not stick with the really great one?

We have not gone for a cruise yet, coming up soon, but as mentioned in all the other postings we have been to WDW numerous times.

We use to live on the east coast and always gone to WDW. When we moved to the west we visited Disneyland. I am sure I am going to open upa can of worms here, but it is just different at WDW. Everytime we visit WDW we see something different and new and just absorb the atmosphere.

I suspect that will be same on the cruise so I need to work on my better half on the next one!!! :D

We've taken the 3-day, 4-day and 7-day Disney cruises and had a great time each and every time. Looking to book another 7-day next year.

Don't know how I missed this one!!
I agree with GoofyDisney...it's like having a cottage or weekend place where you always vacation. For us, the Wonder is so familiar after 19 trips that we feel like we're coming "home." We know many of the crew, and we could navigate the ship in our sleep. We're usually in a secret porthole room or 5650, so even the stateroom is familiar. We used to visit Wisconsin Dells and Cedar Point a lot, in addition to WDW. Our Disney cruises have cut back those trips, but we still do other cruise lines (4 on RCCL, including Alaska last year) and an annual trek to a dude ranch out west. We are also planning an African safari in the end of 2003. Disney cruises are not our only vactions, but they are definitely among our favorite. Great food and service, and I don't think we'll ever get tired of Disney Dreams or Castaway Cay. #20 is less than a month away, and we'll top 30 by the end of 2003.

DH & I got hooked on this at the urging of my Sister-In-Law. Never wanted to cruise....too costly, afraid to get sea sick, what about security, etc. Well Disney put all those fears out the window. This fall will be our 4th cruise ... two 4 day sea/3 day land, one 7 day Eastern and now this 9-28th will be a 7 day Western.

Last year we were lucky enough to be part if the infamous CRUISETOBERFEST and the thrill of meeting all our cyberfriends can NOT be described in any words. If you want to get an idea of the enthusiasm these cruises cause ... read some of the posts in the 9-28-01 Cruise Post.

I believe I can say that "We are Family...." as the song goes.

Give it a try and I guarantee you will get hooked.

Going on our first cruise Magic April 27/2002. All you multipule time cruisers do you always book the same category of room, our family has a Cat 5 and a Cat 11 across the hall on the same deck so we will have a veranda. It does cost a lot of money, more in Canadian dollars, so do you book the lower category for multipule cruises after having done your first cruise or just save up for the cabin of your choice regardless of prices.

Here's another view:
We cruised in July on a 7-day and had such a great time that we booked another 7-day for this July (Western itinerary). We cruise on points through DVC. In August we will book our next 7-day cruise (Western again) to go with friends. Disney is the best line to cruise on with kids and there's plenty of fun stuff for adults. In fact, there are so many things we didn't get to do the first time, I can't wait to get the chance again in July. We will always book the Cat 4 because of its size - we don't need the concierge and booking with points, we can only go as high as cat 4 anyway. I can completely understand people cruising over and over again on DCL - we will.

I think a lot of it is the way people vacation. Some people like to always go different places, some like the routine. I think we fall more into the latter pattern. There are some things we do every year - certain Nascar races, Irish Fest up in Milwaukee, WI and some type of Disney. Last year and this year we've done Disneyland, Disney World and a Disney Cruise.

As far as Cruises we did the 3 day Magic in '99, 7 day Magic (Eastern) in 2001, 4 day Wonder this May and 7 day Magic (Western) in 2003. After that we will definately repeat one or more of those cruises. I cruise more for the ship than the ports. Cruising is the way to go. I've been on a number of different ships in the past and love Disney.

To each their own.

Wish we could cruise and vacation as much as Barb and Tony! We're dinks too, but obviously don't make as much or get as much time off - more power to them as they are enjoying life!

We had planned for our original cruise to be a 'Once in a lifetime vacation'. We had such a wonderful time that we we're planning our next cruise on the flight home!

You really have to experience it for yourself to see what everyone is talking about. The level of service from the moment that you arrive at the port is fantastic.

Also, as a returning cruiser, I felt more comfortable onboard and in the ports. I felt like I knew what to do and see.

I've had co-workers ask me the same question. We're taking 3 cruises on DCL this year but they are all different (Easter/Wester/3-day).

GoofyDisney:
I understand exactally what you mean....we are 4 hours north of Detriot, and cannot imagine that commute every weekend. What is the attraction? Who knows, but I have a feeling if I had the $$ and the resorces I would be traveling to Disney alot more. I always see or experience something diferent evertime!:p

Although we have only been on the disney cruise once so far last year 2001 our first, I have never had such a magical time, let's face it Disney always seems to get just about everything right. We are already planning our next disney cruise but unfortunately we have to wait, as we want to to the 7 night eastern and western back to back, and from the U.K you basically have to take out a second mortgage, to include the flights and additional stay at WDW. I can never for see getting fed up with anything Disney do.
We have cruised on Carnival which was the pit's compaired to Disney, and a number of shorter cruises and NOTHING has even slightly compaired with the style and elegants of Disney.
Go on allow yourself to get hooked, it's a wicked habit but it seems that many of us already have it!!!!!
