Help me understand justifying price please..

It is funny that someone posted this because just this weekend I started having BOOKING REMORSE. :rotfl2: I started thinking ..Do we really want to drop almost 10,000 for our 7 night Fantasy Cruise next summer?? That does not even include our airfare, nights we will stay at Disney/park tickets. :scared1: Then the new itineraries came out for NYC and it got me thinking even more. We could realistically take two 5 night cruises one out of FL and one out of NYC and spend LESS than next summer on the Fantasy. We would get to enjoy two different DCL ships too. I have to say....... the wheels are spinning.

See now for me, that's beyond my limit for a 7 nt cruise. Our avg 7 nt is around $3500. Just talking cruise fare only. Our Thanksgiving '08 cruise was a bit higher at $3900.
We are booked on the Fantasy for Nov '12 for $4743. That is splurging on a verandah which we never do. We're just thinking our kids will be 12.5 & almost 16 by then so hopefully we'll have a little more down time to just sit back and watch the ocean go by. :cloud9:

This is why the $5k for sailing out of NY doesn't seem too outrageous plus it's an 8nt cruise and includes a day in WDW. I'm lovin it more every day. Ds10 is so psyched to sail past the Statue of Liberty.

We are booked in two 5D Verandah cabins on the June 16th 2012 cruise. We booked the end of Feb. and it has already gone up almost a 1000 bucks since. Our kids will be 21, 18 and 13 so we want two cabins. I am kind of rethinking this cruise..... maybe booking a shorter one and then book something on a future cruise as soon as the booking window opens. I am sure we paid WAY more booking in Feb. for the June 2012 cruises on the Fantasy.

I'm not saying you got a bad price, I'm just saying it's beyond my personal limit for cruising. We are a family of 4 and my youngest still falls under "child" pricing. Once you need 2 cabins, the cost goes up dramatically. I'm not used to seeing prices like that. ;)
When did those cruises 1st get released? Back in Feb we booked a 3 nt for Sept and that's gone up almost $1000 since which is just nuts considering it's peak hurricane season and during the school year.
I've been following DCL prices since mid 2005 and I've never seen cruises so in demand. Even if you chose a "short" cruise, you'll be booking at higher prices than when 1st released anyway. Given your kids ages, it may get harder to vacation with all of you together so I still think I'd go for it.

I have no idea when the Fantasy cruises got released. I would LOVE to do it cheaper, but we have to have two cabins with our kids ages. I guess the only way to get a cheaper one would to PUT it off until 2013 and book as soon as the dates come out. I was looking at the Magic 5 night cruise out of NYC in two cabins and a 4 night cruise on the Dream in late Jan. and I can do both of those for about what we are paying for the ONE cruise on the Fantasy.

Hey, Denise! :goodvibes

Good luck in your decision! We booked the Fantasy for August 2012 - Western Caribbean. Kids are beyond excited, and said no big deal about visiting the parks next summer, as we are going to Vero and the cruise!

I think I would take both cruises, instead of just one. We really enjoyed our first Disney cruise - 4 night on the Wonder.

Good luck in your decision! Tiger :)

Wow, I see what you mean. I guess it boils down to which itinerary you prefer. I'd put a hold on the other 2 while you think about it cuz you might just check again in a day or so and they'll be higher.

eta: I was thinking more about which I'd pick. I don't know that I'd like a Disney cruise that didn't stop at CC. To me, that's the icing on the cake. Even when we were on the Dream last month, we enjoyed it but didn't get the same feeling we have on the Magic until we arrived at CC. Sounds weird probably.

I agree with the OP. I have taken 2 DCL cruises, a 3 night & a 4 night about 5 or 6 years ago. I had my mind all set to take a 4 night in June 2012 and had priced the cruises but not booked. I went back and was looking at the prices again and it has gone up over $500 per person. It would probably cost me $3,000 for a 4 night in the cheapest stateroom by the time I add on airfare for the 2 of us. I am a teacher and cannot justify spending that much money for 4 nights. I made the mistake of looking early but not booking, lesson learned.
