Help me to stop worrying

My daughter has the opportunity to go to Disney with her friends for a week. They will be using DCV points belonging to a relative of one of the girls. It will be four 18 year old girls. All are good kids. I just tend to worry. My theory is it is a family resort, they can't get off property because they are not old enough to rent a car and I know they wouldn't be comfortable taking a taxi.

Help me realize I have nothing to worry about.

Ok, they won't be able to get into bars, so thats good.
They won't be driving, thats good.
They are a pack of 4, thats good too.
The parks are full of friendly people and staff.
They probably all have cell phones with your number, each other's numbers, the hotel number, etc.
I am confident that they will have a great time there.
Chill out. She'll be grateful that you let her spend some time with her friends.

I wouldn't worry. Disney is fanatical about ID for drinks. There's enough for the girls to stay busy right on Disney property, even at night. If they do have any problems Disney security is always near by.

Tell them to stay at Old Key West near the Hospitality house. Beautiful resort and probably one of the safest. Wilderness Lodge would also be good.

I own at Saratoga Springs and and if they stay there tell them not to walk home from Downtown Disney at night. It's probably cool but I've done it and felt a little uneasy. I'm also a DVC member so if you have any other concerns let me know.

A little bit to fanatical about IDing! Last year at Coral Reef, I had a waiter tell my fiancee and I that our Ontario drivers licence were not acceptable for ID....but our passports were Ya, because everyone carries their passports around the park just in case they want to get a drink!
I had to actually speak with a manager to get a drink! My point is....if your worried about your daughter drinking....she will have a tough time doing it on Disney property!

They will be fine. You could have her check in with you every day just to be sure.

Are you worried that the girls are going away or is that they are going so far away??? Also, do you feel confident about this group of girls being responsible?

I would feeel more comfortable letting my daughters go to WDW than just about any other place. Sure, I would be a wreck letting them go that far away but in terms of safety WDW is a place that I feel extremely safe.

My oldest DD is 19 and not very mature. She has been talking about taking a trip to someones cottage here in Ontario with a group of friends and I'm freaking out about them going in a car together up the 400. However, a trip to the world would not bother me as much. I have to constantly remind myself that at her age I can't say much.

I went down to Disney when I was 17 with a friend of mine who was 18 (and no parental supervision).

I think we were "extra careful and responsible" because there was no adult supervision. We didn't want to get in trouble and have to call home for help.

Thanks everyone. I really think they will be okay but I do tend to worry a little (Okay a lot) too much. They have all proven to be responsible and my daughter has been there 5 times so she can get around but its just so far away.
I also stressed becaused I have assured one of the parents it is safe but then I think now what if something goes wrong will she blame me.

I know the girls will go and have fun. I wish someone would give me a trip for a graduation present. Maybe I should go with themthey would love that!!

Time is ticking mom.....time to let them go The way I see it. it is still safer than a cottage in the Muskoka where many a teenager has gotten themselves into a bit of trouble. They'll have a great time and make some awesome memories

Well stated.....but when it's your kid it's easier said than done.

It's sure a hard thing to do, putting your child on a plane to go so far away.

Our daughter is the same age and has just spent 9 mos in the Katimavik program. We saw her only once in all that time. She was working in Montreal, Newfoundland, and Manitoba. She comes home in two weeks.

The fact of the matter is that she had the time of her life while mom and dad were complete train wrecks.

The kids will be fine, you won't be until they return. It's all part of being a parent. Beware though, once they get a taste for travelling you won't be able to keep them at home.

They will leave eventually, right? It's just that we will never be "ready" for it. Good luck you'll be fine, we were!
