Help Me to NOT "ugly cry" at Son's Wedding

I just got married in December. I thought for sure I was going to full on bawl my eyes out. I cry at everything. Seriously. I was really surprised that I was able to make it through my vows while still breathing... I barely cried. My mom, who we were very worried about, held it together pretty well. She said she kept telling herself "don't cry, you'll mess up your makeup" and it helped... a little! ;)

I say don't worry about it. If it happens, it happens, and it's okay. Congrats on the wedding!

Hello all.....

I'm the original poster of this thread!! Wanted to report back now that the wedding is OVER!!

I took your advice and just stopped worrying about where my emotions would take me. Prior to the big day, I listened to our mother/son song somewhere in the neighborhood of 100 times. I had plenty of Kleenex, and waterproof mascara. The fact that I took all the stress off myself really helped!!

For some odd reason, I was completely fine ALL DAY!! I just had a few "choked-up" moments. First was when I saw my son in his tuxedo, second was as we were lined up ready to walk him down the aisle, the third was when my future daughter-in-law and her father were paused at the start of the aisle, and lastly was our dance.

My son chit-chatted with me...and even spun me around a few times!! This caused me to giggle. It was a wonderful moment....

I'm so happy I posted here for advice. It really made all the difference in the world!!

Glad to hear all went well. Now you will have all those happy memories to cry over :)

OP_ My son chose "You Raise me Up" by Celtic Woman for our dance, Now I was beyond touched. He was the oldest and my last child to marry, so I was extra emotional. Well, I was teary, but no one cared. He just talked and smiled. You will be fine, and if you cry, you cry, Mothers can cry when their children marry.

I made small talk with my dad during our father/daughter dance at my wedding to avoid tears :thumbsup2

My son did the same for me, and it really did help :goodvibes

Congrats! So glad it went well for you.

So glad you didn't "ugly cry". :thumbsup2 And I'm happy that you were able to enjoy the time leading up to the wedding without overly worrying about "The Day". Congrats on your expanded family.

Fellow Crier here! I haven't even seen Toy Story 3 cuz I know what it will do to me.

Yep. That was me. It came out the year before my oldest graduated high school and once I heard the storyline I knew not to see it. I'm not sure I'll ever be able to.

Definitely NOT "Cute girl in a movie supposedly ugly cries but still looks cute". I just googled Kim Kardashian's ugly cry....and that's pretty close!!

Something like this?

Seriously though ... valium. Something with some punch to it like klonopin. Talk to a doctor, I'm not suggesting anything illicit.

You want to be 'present' but not loose control emotionally and they have stuff for that. Alternately ... just resign yourself to being 'that person'

Thank you all for your kind wishes.

I knew that the bride was a lover of Disney.....but I learned that her Mom is too!! We are both thinking a "moms" only trip is in our future!!
