Help me think through this (good) problem

This last year after 10 years of being part time with our school district was offered a full time position that had dental medical vision. While My hourly rate dropped a few bucks an hour and with the partial insurance deductions I am bringinghome about 100 or so less a month. I did this for the insurance (when part time we would work our 3hour permanent position and then 4 hours of extra duty thatway we were paid for 7 but no benefits. My kids are grown but I went to work when youngest was 7 and did the slpit hours for 10 years. The insurance was the clincher for us. It is less than what my husband paid for just his policy and way more inclusive.
I would take the benefits. Heck with kids growing it would be worth it for things like braces and wisdom teeth that will be comming in.
Check with your school. Out here we have a few programs that provide child care one onsite at some of our schools called Think together. and there is the Boys and Girls club, they pick the kids up from school and take them to the boys and girls club site.
Just an option or two.

While I think you have a wonderful opportunity if it were me I would stay with the part time position. As others have said they grow up way to fast. I also tend to be very over protective I guess but unless I knew I had a place for my ten year old to go that had supervision I definitely would not take it. To me ten years old is still so young to be leaving even for an hour. This is just my opinion. Good luck with whatever decision you choose.

Thank you all for the input!

There are so many potential changes going on in my life right now. I think I am going to have to explore all opportunities and see how the cards fall. I will apply for the new job, but have the option to always say no.

And I think a lot of my decision may be based on where we end up moving. If my kids can go to my mom's house, it will make everything a lot easier to think about.

Now, to fix up the resume and get ready to get my house on the market. No stress here!

One more post before you go OP...

I was a SAHM for 9 years before I went back to work FT in a contract position. Getting the job was both a blessing and a curse for me. It was SOOOO hard to transition back into working FT that at first I was hoping the contract wouldn't last very long. I was also very tired by the time I got home. I felt like I was barely getting a chance to see the kids because everything was rushed...homework, eat, extra curriculars, bed, do it all over again. Yes, we were bringing in more money, but we were also spending more. More on fuel, tolls, food for lunches, food for dining out because I was too tired to cook. It almost didn't feel worth it except that we were finally able to save a nice chunk of money because I sucked it up for our future!

I actually lucked out. I had the best boss. I ended up finishing up the contract from home part-time but I will tell you, I was ready to give it all up and just go back to being a SAHM after we saved the $$$ because I didn't have the energy to do both. I've done miscellaneous part-timers throughout my SAHM tenure and quite frankly, nothing beats being able to be here for the kids when they need me. We BOTH can't be here, but knowing one of can is such a relief. My DS is also getting older and moving into high school next year. I really feel like I need to be here for him. Yes, they're expensive, but I wouldn't trade being able to swing the door open and see them run home as they get off the bus unless I absolutely had to; part-time is good enough for now. At least you still have your foot in the door in your current position. Just my two cents.

Good luck with whatever you decide. I know it's not an easy decision.
