Okay, so I need some help. I am kind of an overachiever, and figured as my senior year in high school, I should try to fit in a little extra to impress the colleges. Simple stuff, really. Well, the thing is, things have kind of escalated.

I've got three classes in high school: world geography (ridiculously easy), journalism (lots of stuff out of school, as well as in school; writing articles and arranging layouts for the yearbook), and band (marching band? 'Nuf said). I'm also taking three classes at the local community college: western world literature I (a fairly easy class; I'm doing well and enjoying it), introduction to psychology, and Spanish II (ohmagoodness, that is the most stressful thing ever). I've got a job, too, but I'm not able to work many hours.

Needless to say, I've been extremely stressed out since my college classes kicked in. I just had a little anxiety attack when I realized that I had just missed all the quizzes for this chapter. I'm not even sure how I missed it, but I did. Now, this shouldn't be enough to fail me in this class, but still, it was a shock that I'd missed them.

Does anyone have any recommendations, especially on how to handle stress? I've finally gotten to the point where I'm able to fit in most of my studying and stuff, but still...it's a lot. It doesn't take a lot to make me freak out about not having enough time. So any kind of help would be appreciated. (Any good websites or strategies to learning Spanish would also be helpful!)

What helps me is to plan each week out, looking ahead. I plan a little bit of everything to do on everyday. I find that when I do things gradually it's a lot less stressful and avoids the last minute panic.
Also before classes even start I make a big color coded calendar by class for the whole semester. It's super handy to look at everything in one spot, so you can see all your upcoming assignments, and also plan ahead for really busy weeks filled with lots of exams, etc.
Hope this helps!

i agree with what the above person said.

get a planner and look at the sylbabusses for each of your college classes and right down EVERYTHING, also write down any deadlines for college applications. that way you'll have everything written down in one place.
become religious about your planner and there shouldnt be any surprises.
i know how you feel, senior year can be extremely overwhelming especially with applying for universities and what not.
but just keep your planner, write down all the deadlines for everything and check it every day.

then try to write down what you plan on doing every day. for example Monday: Lit Paper and Spanish Assignment, Tuesday: Psych reading and Geo project.
just space it out so you're not cramming too much into one day, that will cause major anxiety
also for handling stress, my advice is dont do too much more than you had planned for a day.
if you intended to write Lit paper and do your spanish assignment one night, when you finish that just RELAX. that feeling of accomplishment that you finished all your work and being able to say "i finished my homework!" that night will make you feel good and release a lot of the stress

take it day by day and try to enjoy it too :)
hope that helps and good luck!

Thanks, guys. Those suggestions helped. I'm definitely going to go home and make some calenders up!

I understand what you mean by being stressed out. I am a sophomore in college now and when I was in high school I would flip out over grades. I think the thing that helped me out a lot was lots of lists.

Also I just realized that grades weren't the absolute most important thing and that if I did the homework and tried my hardest things would work out. I don't just the whole mind set thing really helped me out in calming down. My grades didn't change much either which is good but the freak-outs were definitely decreased. :rotfl:

Hope this helps!:cool1:
