If you go to the Grand Canyon, why not drive Route 66 to Disneyland? Fly into Phoenix, drive to the Grand Canyon, then to Disneyland. With that said, why not check out the California beaches, museums, and other parks and attractions in the Orange County and Los Angeles County? Knotts Berry Farm is about 6 miles from Disneyland. There are many professional sport teams to catch a game, or rent a car and drive up PCH. That is so beautiful.
One more thing, when family says stuff to you about your vacation, if you had a great time on your vacation at Disneyland, why on earth let anyone, let alone family get under your skin and make you feel you didn't do enough for your $$$.
