Help me pick a Deluxe, please

Another vote for the Poly :). We love the Poly for the large rooms, the volcano pool with a great view of the castle in the distance, Captain Cooks for quick CS meals, and the beach for watching the fireworks :wizard:. Also, not only is it very convenient to the MK via the monorail, but you can walk to the TTC to pick up the Epcot monorail :goodvibes.

I suggest Animal Kingdom Lodge Kidani.

A savannah view room would be great, however, to save a little money a nonsavannah room is wonderful too. There are many areas around the resort for viewing the animals and to talk to the Castmembers who are very knowledgeable.

The Community Hall has many activities for families, including opportunities to learn about the African countries.

You can use either Kidani or Jambo pool. Both are beautiful and great for kids, as well as adults.

Kidani rooms have kitchens and washer/dryer. A one bedroom has two complete bathrooms and sleeps 5.

This is a great site that gives in depth detail about which resorts are recommended. This isn't scientific obviously, just 1 site's opinion, but I'd say their reviews are spot on.

If you don't feel like skimming through, here were their rankings for the Deluxe Resorts:

1.Polynesian
2.Wilderness Lodge
3.Animal Kingdom Lodge
4.Contemporary Resort
5.Grand Floridian
6.Beach Club
7.Yacht Club
8.BoardWalk Inn

If you're planning to spend most of your time at MK, I'd go with the Poly. If you're likely to spend more time at EP and DHS (which is the case with our 7 and 10 year olds) I'd go with Beach Club.

We love Ohana at the Poly and the Cape May character breakfast at BC (we were just there and even though our kids wanted nothing to do with characters in the parks, they happily hugged Minnie and friends).

We stayed at WL and loved it, but you'd have to do a villa or club level deluxe to fit five. Same with AKL, you'd need a villa.

I know how you feel, with our kids getting older, we felt like we needed to splurge on this last trip a bit and really enjoy the "magic." But then we did the DVC tour and decided to join. Now we're looking forward to years of staying on Disney property but doing other things as well instead of spending every minute at the parks.

I'll go against everyone else and would NOT choose the Poly. We stayed there twice last year and both times the rooms had mold in the bathroom and peeling wallpaper. While the room was spacious it was also very dark and not very inviting. This year we're trying the GF ( in two weeks!). I've also stayed at the Contemporary and BLT- I'd either choose a monorail resort or the BC ( for SAB)---Kathy

If you are sold on the monorail route, then go with Poly. I think it's hands down the best on the monorail route. If you are open to other options, I highly recommend BC or YC. They have the best pool in WDW, close to Epcot, easy to get on the monorail and head up to MK, Beaches and Cream is a great fun place to eat with the kids as is Cape May. If I could stay anywhere in WDW, I think I would pick BC.

Our kids are growing up way too fast and this is probably going to be the last trip where they really get caught up in the fantasy of it all (oldest DS is already beyond that age:sad2:)

Slightly off topic but I wanted to say, my oldest two are 20 and 16 and they still get caught up in the fantasy/magic of it all. It is funny to see my macho 16 year old football player tough guy son get all excited and child-like when he sees Eeyore or to see my 20 year old daughter scream and chase Princess Tiana through the park. :thumbsup2

The fantasy doesn't necessary go away as they age. :wizard:
