Help me out here, Atmosphere?

We just got back from WDW and our goal next time is to actually enjoy dinner in an atmosphere that is not noisy! We ate at Kona, Boma and Boatwright's. All sounded like school cafeterias with loud, echoing noise.

Where in WDW can you get a meal in a reasonably quiet atmosphere? I'm not syaing no kids. All the places we ate would have been quiet even with the kids if any effort had been put into making them so as far as layout and decoration.

Where can you get a peaceful meal in WDW???

I read your food review and was specifically interested in your comment with something about the food being just okay in even the good places? Not sure if I interpreted it correctly. Anyway, I was looking for your "good places" and saw that you didn't really try any of them. Oh, yeah, the food is good at Kona but the atmosphere is NOTORIOUSLY mentioned as being awful. It is a coffee shop that juts out into the middle of the upper lobby of the hotel.

If you want good, intimate dining you need to stick with Artist Point (although the high ceilings and tiled floors can often carry noise) and Citricos. Basically, you've got to do signature dining. Two table service credits.

We don't do dining plan since we're passholders. I'd be happy to do signature dining but the only one I haven't heard is noisy was V&A. So Citricos and Artist's Point are good options? How about Narcosees or Blue Zoo? Bistro de Paris? Are any of those quiet? We wanted to try CA Grill but heard it was noisy too.

I haven't tried all of the ones you've mentioned. Also, I only mentioned the 2 credit places because it seems that 99% of the people who post here do the dining plan. I don't do it either.

I have been to Artist Point three times and each time it has been pretty quiet. I'm thinking that it is mainly due to the lack of kids (although there are some there). Most people with small kids don't choose to go there. Everyone is pretty quiet, the servers are quiet, etc. I think it has the potential to get noisy because of the soaring ceilings and tiled floors, but so far, my experience has been quiet.

Citricos, when I went, was very busy and the tables were closer together than in Artist Point. But there was nice carpeting in the restaurant, heavy drapes on the windows. This help to muffle the sound a lot. Again, not a lot of children. It was noisier than AP but nothing like Kona.

One of my worst "noise" experiences was 1900 Park Fare. I went to the breakfast buffet one year and I could hardly talk to my family members because of the clanging, clashing, and shrieking in the restaurant. There is just something about the acoustics in that place...

CA Grill didn't seem noisy to me, and I'm fairly sensitive to that. It is a large open dining room, so I wouldn't describe the atmosphere as intimate, but it is not a loud place. As I recall, my kids were very well behaved that evening, but I was quite conscious of how much noise they were making and trying to ensure that they didn't disturb anyone, so it must have been pretty quiet. Plus, you can't beat the views, and we had a delicious meal.

You know, I had to really think about quiet places to eat in WDW. Most of them are pretty noisy. Cali Grill seems noisy when you first get up there and if you're anywhere around the bar but our table was off to the back by the window and it was very quiet around our table. I've heard Yachstman steakhouse at Yacht Club is very quiet (we're trying here our next trip). I would love to go to Artist Point and everyone I've heard from has said that it is quiet (all the noisemakers go to WCC ). Chefs de France was very quiet when we went there. Boma's was one of the noisiest meals I've ever had (not counting ALL character buffets) at WDW.

In none of the places we ate were kids to blame for the noise level. Sure a kid would cry occasionally or something but the noise was not their fault. It was the hard surfaces and wide open spaces and general din. I was really very impressed actually by the overall excellent behaviour of all the children we saw in the places we ate. Maybe they were just too exhausted from the parks to be rambunctious!

Our family enjoyed the quiet atmosphere at Jiko, Artist's Point, Coral Reef, and Marrakesh (we had young kids at all these meals) . We too also disliked Boma for the loudness of the restaurant. Not a relaxing way to eat or end your day at all.

When I read the original post, I immediately thought Yachtsman Steakhouse. Easily the quietest meal I've ever had at Disney World. And there were kids there as well. But it just seemed that the tables were more private. I don't think Le Cellier is very noisy either. We have dined at California Grill and I did think it was noisy. Not from the kids, either. From the adults. Grand Floridian Cafe was also very nice for a lunch. Elegant and quiet.

That's me talking. My husband would say "getting a pizza and going back to the room and watching sports".

Marrakesh? You must not have been there when the music was playing and the belly dancer was out. Very loud and boisterous during those times.

I agree. When we went to Marrakesh, there were only about 4 other families dining in there besides ourselves. For some reason, it seemed very noisy in there. All I heard was clanking dishes.

One of my favorite restaurants is Narcoosee's, and the sound echoes for days in there - all hard surfaces.

Just pondering, but I recall the Hollywood Brown Derby being peaceful, for a park restaurant. Ditto Bistro de Paris.

When my kids are exhausted, the rambunctiousness level increases exponentially until they finally crash.

ITA about the hard surfaces and open spaces. I hate cavernous restaurants that echo every sound to the point where I have to yell to be heard by my dh across the table.

We like the Coral Reef and the kids were well behaved looking at the fish. It was our most relaxed stop(we only had dessert so no comment on the food) and I like the atmosphere and service. Nice place to take a break after walking miles in Epcot.
