We will be in Disney in March for eight nights and nine days and our ADRs open up soon. We are paying out of pocket so I'm not concerned with DDP credits, but I do feel like these will all add up quickly! Ideally, I'd like to eliminate 2-3 from this list. I'll still probably go ahead and make the reservation just to get them and pare down later. If you had to eliminate 2-3 from this list which ones would you eliminate?

Note: Tusker House (breakfast), Yak and Yeti, and 50s Prime Time are on our list and are not eligible for elimination. :)

Chef Mickey - dinnner
The Plaza
The Wave
Mama Melrose
Garden Grill - breakfast
Via Napoli
Sanna - dinner
Hollywood Brown Derby
Beaches
1900 Park Fare (a friend raved about their breakfast so thinking of this as a breakfast option)

Sebastian's Bistro and Whispering Canyon are lurking in the background trying to get on the list too. :)

Any feedback on ones to for sure keep, or could live without would be MUCH appreciated. For reference we have two boys 8 and 7.

I have to agree with Kae on The Plaza and Mama Melrose. They're two of our least favorites.
I'm not a huge fan of Chef Mickey's for dinner but if it's for the character interaction, then go for it. If it's all about the food, then Boma blows it away.

The only ones on that list I would want to go to are garden grill breakfast, via napoli, sanaa, Hollywood Brown Derby, and Whispering Canyon. Chef Mickey has terrible food and ambiance but the characters are good-but since you are going to see the same characters at Tusker House I would drop that. Plaza, the Wave, and Mama Melrose are all B-listers--I don't think anyone here is really going to recommend them (the Wave has a cult following for breakfast, but you don't say if you are thinking of breakfast or dinner). Beaches is fun for the kitchen sink but nothing special otherwise. 1900 Park fare is decent, but I don't see the characters (Mary Poppins, Alice etc.) appealing much to two boys, and it is time consuming breakfast away from the parks. I have not tried Sebastians, but if you are not staying at the Caribbean or on a skyliner resort, it seems kind of out of the way to go for a meal.

For sure, I'd drop Chef Mickey's and Via Napoli. If I had to also drop a third one, it would be either Brown Derby, Plaza Restaurant or Beaches and Cream.

I would keep The Wave, Garden Grill, 1900 Park Fare, Sebastian's Bistro, and Whispering Canyon.

Neutral on Mama Melrose.

Regarding Sanaa, if your family enjoys Indian food back home, then you will probably like it. If not, I'd go with something else.

Brown Derby, Beaches, Chef Mickey's.

I'd keep the Plaza, great food and decent prices for a theme park, esp if you are paying out of pocket.

I would drop the following-

Chef Mickey (dinner)- it's pricy, the food isn't that great, and you will meet most of those characters at Tusker
Mama Melrose- Via Napoli is better IMO
Hollywood Brown Derby

Drop Via Napoli, I personally didn't care for the food or the atmosphere. It's got have at least one for me! I'm a big fan of Garden Grill for breakfast, also....Sanaa, Tusker House and Hollywood Brown Derby!

Definitely drop Chef Mickey. The food is sub-par (at best).

I'd also drop Hollywood Brown Derby. It's expensive and the food uninspired.

We did Boma for dinner last year and we didn't love it.... :(

1900 park fare is great for breakfast. The character interactions there are great for boys or girls. The Mad Hatter is always absolutely hilarious. The food is pretty standard breakfast buffet stuff, but the character interactions there are some of our favorites. We go every trip.

I would drop Hollywood Brown Derby. I was underwhelmed by their food. Also, it might not be the best setting for the boys. I would do Whispering Canyon in a heartbeat over HBD.

This was so helpful!!! Thank you! We are staying at CBR -- the only reason I thought of trying Sebastians.. :)

I would drop Chef Mickey's. It's overpriced and the food is terrible. You will have a much better Mickey meal at TH. I would also drop Mama Melrose. The food is really subpar. I would probably drop the Plaza. It's cute, but the menu is limited and the food isn't great. It's on par with MK QS food IMHO. I do recommend going to the Plaza ice cream shop for ice cream, however! We aren't fans of Beaches and Cream, but the atmosphere is cute for kids. Hate to throw one at you, but have you considered Sci-Fi? That is a total hit with my DS.

Throw 'em at me! We did Sci-Fi diner last year and I think it is so fun but the boys thought the movie was kind of scary and don't want to go back. :(

The Plaza is not like MK QS food at all. I won't even touch most QS food at Disney and I love Plaza. Trust me on this one, and they have amazing milkshakes to boot.

I'll agree with dropping Chef Mickey's. It's gone downhill a lot since we first started to eat there.
Beaches and Cream may still be closed for renovations, so that may be off the list by default.
The Wave may be a bit too 'stuffy' for your boys, if they're the active type. It's a wonderful place, but, IMO, more adult oriented. Haven't done breakfast there, just dinner and lunch.
Sanaa is amazing, but my advice there is to share things - make it a tasting meal, so if somebody doesn't like what they ordered, there is other stuff to try.
Haven't eaten at Mama Melrose's for a while, and wasn't thrilled with it, but I've been reading some good reviews of it lately. YMMV
The Plaza is very good. Limited menu, and what they do, they (usually) do right. And ice cream... :hyper:

The rest I haven't been to, or it's been so long I don't feel I can give an honest, current, answer.

I would get rid of The Plaza, Chef Mickey, HBD, and Beaches and Cream.

I would keep 1900 PF for either Breakfast or dinner, and would choose it based on what characters you want.

I would consider The Grand Floridian Cafe in place of The Wave.

I would cancel Via Napoli or Mama Melrose and add Tratoria al Forno on the Boardwalk.

I would keep Sanaa.

I'm basing this solely on food quality as my traveling children are passed interest in character meals.

I see 2 Italian eateries on your list so I'm guessing that's a cuisine you like a lot: I'd keep VN and drop Mama Melrose . Different types of Italian (VN is Neapolitan and MM, Italian-American) but VN puts more love in the the final product.
We love Saana but since you didn't enjoy Boma I'd drop Saana.
There's no place in MK that inspires me food wise so I'd drop everything there but that's not sensible for many visitors. The Plaza seems innocuous. How much wrong can anyone do to a sandwich?

Do try and make space for Sebastian's . We traveled from BWI and took 2 buses to get there; totally worth the effort.

Have fun whatever choices you make:).
