I was set on Belle for a girl puppy, but we are getting a boy and that just won't work!

He's a tiny Shih Tzu, 9 weeks old right now, but will be about 8 pounds fully grown. He's a puffball of brown and black hair...

I really usually like "real" names, but no real boy names are appealing to me... DH likes Oscar (the Grouch) and Gizmo (Gremlin), and dad was suggesting Figment. So I'm reconsidering non-people names...

I would love to have some meaning to it! What are some good puppy names? Can you think of any male Disney characters that are good? I'm always just stuck on the princessy names =)

so we named her megara.......our last dalmatian was jasmine rajah.....the rajah was a male name but went well with jasmine.....our little girl now is called Meg...
gizmo was my nieces dog who also was a Shih Tzu....I think that is a common name for them because they look like the one in the movie.....are there any greek mythology names of men.....we are doing that for our dal......megara athena or megara persephone

I think Figment would be a very cute name for a little Shih Tzu! :)

All our animals have had Disney names...
Cat #1 Mickey
Cat #2 Simba
Cat #3 Jessie (from toy story)
Dog (puppy) Lilo

Now, we only have Jessie and Lilo.

We were going to get a boy dog and name him Stitch, but we ended up with a girl so it was only natural to go with Lilo.
I don't have any great suggestions for you, but you will love your little Shih Tzu, they are so cute!

Good luck

Lisa

Taran (the black cauldron)
huey, dewey or louie
Aladdin
Jafar
Iago
Stitch
Archimedes (the owl in Sword in the stone) (we used to have a sugar glider named Archimedes and we called him Archie, I think this would be a great fit for a cute furry animal!)
Scuttle
Bernard
Phoebus
Clopin
Djali
Gepetto
Grimsby
Hercules
Jiminy
Maurice
Meeko
Merlin
Milo
Mowgli
Mufasa (oh-gosh, that would be so funny! this tiny shih-tzu named Mufasa!)
Mushu
Rufus

Okay, so there is my little list! Other ideas would be to name it after an aspect of your favorite ride...for example, if your favorite ride is the haunted mansion you could name the dog Gracey after the surname of the legendary owner of the mansion.

I still say my favorite is Archimedes/Archie followed closely by Mufasa (cuz that's too funny!) I also like Jiminy for a furbaby too!

Good Luck, this is almost as much fun as naming babies, I think i need a pet

I vote for Stitch! That's what I wanted to name my son's dog, but he picked Skip. I think Shih Tzu's get bigger than 8lbs, my Shih tzu/toy poodle mix is 12lbs and they told me she'd be bigger than my son's dog (maltese/toy poodle mix) because Shih tzu's are around 15 lbs full grown. Shih tzu's aren't toy, but considered small. Love mine btw, she's my baby!

We have dogs, Belle...Magic...& Pixiedust (we call her Pixie)

Our cats are, Simba & Nala (sister & brother) Rajah & Jasmine (another sister & brother) and an O'Malley.

WE now have a litter of 6 Newfoundland pups...trying to decide which ONE to keep...it's getting TOO hard so we may just cave in & keep a girl & a boy.

I'm thinking of Hercules...but I like Merlin too! No ideas at the present for the girl...but thay will all have disney names.

We have also had a 180 lb Mastiff that was Tinkerbell!!

OMG Poohlover, my daughter would love to move in with you, we have 1 dog and 1 cat and she acts like she is being abused that we don't have more.

Before I opened up and read this post, I was thinking Mushu (great minds think a ton alike!)

My "puppy nephew" is named Gizmo...he is a year old Shih Tzu who is about 5 lbs. The name fits him so well...he is a cutie! He and my furbaby, Mr. Pibb (an 80 lb. Old English Sheepdog) are the best of friends. We are convinced that Gizmo thinks he's Mr. Pibb's size and Mr. Pibb thinks he's Gizmo's size; they are so awesome when they play together!!

Good luck with your new family member...love him up!

ooooooo, Mufasa! Say it again! Mufasa!

(thats my favorite name and my favorite movie quote!)

My first thought was also Mushu!!! Just named our kitten Meeko since we were't too sure if he was a he or a she...turns out Meeko is a she!!

How about naming him after my personal favorite character in a Disney Movie.......
Captain Jack (Sparrow, that is)

According to the AKC (www.akc.org), and the other books I read, they are toy (not small) and run from 9-16 pounds usually. His mother is about 7 pounds fully grown, and he is part of a very small litter. His dad was 8 pounds. So that's why the breeder guessed he'd top out about 8 or so... she had others that were much bigger, and would be more in the 12-15 pound fully grown. =) Never know! The doc told my mom I'd be 5'8 and I never got past 5'4 =)

Thanks for all the tips! We are still debating =) We pick him up tonight, if all goes well, so hopefully spending sometime with him will help =)

Since they originated in the Orient - I think Mushu would be a cute oriental and Disney name.

Also like Sebastian, very small and regal sounding.
