So, I have two wii's... brand new in box ( they seem to be plentiful in my area.. ) So I scooped two up in the hopes of selling them on Ebay... Here's my question... Do I sell now on ebay or wait until closer to christmas? Which do you think will make more $?

Thanks for the help disers!:goodvibes

I think craigslist depends on your area - my craigslist sells primarily used stuff -

as far as ebay, I would say wait until about 3 - 2 weeks before Christmas and put it up for 3 days over a weekend (ending on a Sunday night). The longer you wait the better, just make sure to offer priority shipping so they receive it in time, and require insurance as well!

I'd craigslist them, that way the transaction is face to face and there are no fees.

Out of curiosity, is there even a market for wiis now. We were one of the few people in our neighborhood to get one when they 1st came out 2 christmases ago. Within the past year, it seems as though everyone in our neighborhood has one now who wants one.

Sorry to be a negative person in this thread but I think it is bad when people do things like this. It makes it harder for those who might need that one big present (especially in this years economy) to get something their kids might really enjoy.

We got a Wii for our sons last year when they were very, very hard to get. I could have gotten other ones but I didn't.

Yes, you could use the money but....

I agree, this was exactly what I thought when I read this thread.

yikes.. I thought that everyone on ebay is out to make money.. isn't that what people do? Sell things to make money?? Regardless if it is a wii or a dvd, don't people buy things to sell on ebay? wow. popcorn::

Most of the time that is the case. I THINK (JMO) that when it comes to children and christmas, especially the 'hard to get' things that maybe it hits a nerve to parents (at least it does for me).

If they are plentiful in your area, then Craig's list won't do you any good. Honestly you might loose money on ebay, between all the fees, listing fees, final value fees, paypal fees. You will have to sell it for a pretty good markup to profit at all, and there isn't as much of a shortage on Wii's this year. A lot of homes already have one, and stores are doing a good job of keeping them in stock. Add in the fact the economy sucks and I don't think parents will be shelling out big bucks for a wii this year, I think most will buy it in the store if they see it, but not over pay on ebay.

No, everyone doesn't buy things to sell on Ebay.

Please don't apologize! I totally agree!:thumbsup2 Around here, Wii's have become pretty plentiful - and Nintendo has made it clear that everyone who wants to have one will be able to get one by Christmas!:goodvibes

That IS what Ebay is about! Sorry I dont agree with the other posters. Wii's are NOT hard to find this year, so she is not "taking" away from anybody. If you buy things off of Ebay 90% of the time, someone just bought a bunch, upped the price and is selling it. It is the simple concept of supply and demand. I love Ebay, I am a buyer and seller. I have been steering away little by little in selling though. The fees and the feedback rules are nuts. I would sell in Craigslist or if you have a local parenting magazine, try there. Goold Luck to you, and I hope you get what you want out of selling them!

Well said! And very true!:)

right.. but there ARE people who DO purchase SOME items at a PRICE that they deem good, to sell the ITEM on ebay for a much HIGHER price? Would that be correct?

You asked a question, I answered it. Not everyone buys things just to turn around and try and make money on Ebay. So I see no reason for the "tone" in your reply.

Yes you are probably right. However perhaps then you should not of asked a question such as this on the BUDGET boards?:confused3 It would seem pretty obvious that the people here are not the ones likely to pay your "MUCH HIGHER" price! I think the attitude you are receiving has more to do with the way you come across and the words you choose, which are definitely not setting a "Budget tone".

I once tried to buy a wii fit off of CL and I advertised in the "wanted" section that I was looking for a wii fit at a reasonable price but since I understood people were re-selling, I'd be willing to pay a premium (IE $25 over retail). The person that contacted me wanted at least $75 over the retail which I was not willing to do.

So keep in mind that if you set a reasonable price, people who are too lazy to track one down or cant find one will pay it..but..with a teeny bit of elbow grease (IE I got to target at 7:30), I'd rather save the money. The person was still advertising selling the items a couple of weeks later.

I have a feeling that OP was looking for help to make some extra money, and thought that a budget minded group would be able to point her in the right direction for selling something she had - kind of like the person who asked for help in pricing her used clothes, or the person who needs help with their garage sale etc...
