Help me-ideas to get $ for Disney trip

This may sound silly but it is something I started doing while I was bartending. I had wanted to save all of my tip money for WDW but I kept slipping. So I decided that every time I get a dollar bill that has one of my initials or my husbands on it inside the federal reserve circle it gets put in a tin. No mater what. I was amazed at how fast the money piled up! We also save all of our change.

Selling anything you do not use to either a resale shop or on Ebay is a great way to pay for a trip. I have paid for several trips doing just this. While i won't recommend investing any money to sell items I will share this with you. I always keep my eye out for things at resale shops, rummage sales, and auctions that I personally collect. Example : I bought a Disney book for $5 and once I found out how much it was worth sold it for $43 on Ebay, it was a "Song of the South" Book. I am an avid book collector and had it not sold I would have been just as happy keeping it. But that was $36 more in my WDW fund. I also have several rummage sale pottery pieces laying around and boy was I surprised to find out what collectors would pay for them! I am going to list them to help pay for our next trip. A friend of mine collects glass statues, paper wieghts ect. She can spot a great deal a mile away and because of it she is able to pay her bills with the income from reselling rare pieces. I couldn't tell you the difference between a dollar store paper wieght and a $500 antique, so that level of time and investment is not for me. But if I happen to stumble onto a deal thats great.

Also since you are in WI have you heard of Plato's Closet? Not sure how old your kids are but if you have teens or you yourself wear brand name clothes they do give a great price. I love rummage sales- even if you put out 500 things and a sign that says everything is a dollar. That is still one dollar more than you had with it just cluttering up your house. I made almost $700 on our last rummage sale! This winter we did a massive cleaning and donated 20+ boxes to Easter Seals. Yes we could have held out untill spring and had a rummage sale but sometimes it just feels nice to give it away. So my rule now is we donate necessities and sell anything frivalous. Great thread :thumbsup2

You don't need to PM about the sites out there. There is a reward board here on the DIS that talks about a lot of great sites. I found sun shinerewards.com, swagbucks.com and MYPOINTS through the DIS. I LOVE sunshine. I can make great money there if I am consistent.

What a cool idea! We just scavenged around the house and found $4 with our initials. My 8 yo dd is making a "Dis Dollars" jar as we speak. We already save our change, too, but this will increase our saving so much more quickly AND it will be fun to look for (and hope for!) those initials! Thanks :)
