On our last WDW trip, I traded for a pin off of a CM lanyard that I have been unable to identify. Unfortunately, I do *not* have photo scanning capability, so a description will have to do...

Size: about 1" wide & 3/4" high
Color/type: painted silverish metal
Characters: Mickey and Pluto
Mickey wearing his classic red pants, yellow shoes, holding a magnifying glass in one hand, blue flashlight in other
Mickey is wearing a green Sherlock Holmes/deerstalker cap
Pluto is running/walking at Mickey's side/in back of Mickey, looking up at him
Mickey seems to be standing still
Mickey has the old-fashioned pie-eyes & white face
The two friends are in front of a brick wall
Identifying marks on back: (in 3 lines, top to bottom)
"THE DISNEY STORE"
"[copyright symbol]DISNEY"
"MADE IN TAIWAN"

I have combed through PinPics, done Google searches & cannot find this pin referenced anywhere. It does not appear to be a fantasy/fake/bootleg. One friend said that it might be a giveaway pin from the Disney Mystery Event 2002. Another source said that they thought it might be a Disney Store, maybe even a Disney Store CM pin...

Does this pin sound familiar to anyone? Does anyone have a scanned pic they could post somewhere? Hellllllllpppppp....

thanks,
agnes
PS - I feel so much better now :)

Just giving this little post a bump :) .

I'm starting to think that my unknown pin might actually be rare, since no-one seems to be able to definitively identify it.

thanks to everyone who took a look at the original post. Maybe I'll take it to a 'Scoop' seminar on my next trip...he should be able to tell me something about it.

If it says Disneystore, it can't be a park cast pin.

I wish I saw a picture of it........ the logo almost sounds like the one on prizes given out to cast members for stopping shop lifters. I have a CD case that I "won" for this, it has Mickey wearing a Sherlock Holmes type outfit, with the magnifying glass on the cover. I do not remember a pin, but there were several different prizes available, all with this logo.

It also sounds familiar, for one in a series of Disney boxed pins sold only in the Gallery Stores, but those usually said LE and the edition on the back, IE LE 1500. Some of those were small series of 2-8 pins, some were sold alone, but they came in individual little boxes, that said "Magical Moments" on the box. (Later, they used the "Magical Moments" for another large series of DS pins, and the boxes stopped using that title.) Some Magical Moments sets were based upon Disney shorts, like Plane Crazy, etc.

Pat -

Many thanks for the reply. I don't have a flatbed scanner or a digital camera, otherwise I would be able to post a pic of this pin. :(

I don't think that this is a Gallery pin, simply because the quality is not there. It "looks" like a giveaway of some type, perhaps Disney Store CMs who stopped shoplifting or something similar? I will have to take it to WDW the next time I go & maybe show it to Scoop or to folks at a pintrading evening or to any pinheads I can find around Epcot's Pin Central or at the DtD Pin Store.

Anybody else have any ideas?

TIA,
agnes! :D

Does your mickey look similar to this mickey?

He sounds very similar to that one, maybe there was a subset, but it does sound like it's from a mystery type set.

The cast member items from loss prevention looked like this mickey-

I have small silver souvie type lock that has this exact print of mickey etched into the lock (all black, no color). I received from a loss prevention issue. I also found a donald duck pin that was very similar for loss prevention. I think if it was a loss prevention Cast Member pin it would say loss prevention on it, just as these pins do.

Sorry couldn't figure out how to post a pict. :wizard:

Thanks for the pinny info, but none of those pins are what I have. I pored over eBay, PinPics & even did numerous Google searches to try to find out info about this little pin.

Btw, that Donald/"Loss Prevention" pin is listed on PinPics as a "Bootleg". (The only reason I knew about it was one of my innumerable PinPics searches was for "Sherlock Holmes" & this pin has Donald wearing a Sherlock Holmes hat.)

Thanks anyway - I really appreciate everyone's posts about information & all ideas as to exactly what this "mystery" pin actually is.
