YIKES......what's wrong with me??? How can I not be excited about going to WDW? This annual trip is my kick off to the holidays and always gets me in Christmas Spirit. This year, I'm thinking of cancelling the trip. I must have some hormonal imbalance or something.

Has anyone else ever not been excited about going to WDW? What did you do to get in the spirit? I need some help here.

I need that Love Ya, Mean It attitude.

Thanks!
Diane

After reading some trip reports and getting through a weekend of hanging drywall....I'm now ready and excited for a vacation! Thanks everyone for the ideas and tips to get excited - and I'll have a happy face on at MVMCP on 11/30!!

OMG, I WISH i were going to disney during the holidays, or going to disney at all. i mean, i am considering 1-2 trips next year, but thats a long time away. how can you not be excited? think about that disney hospitality, shows like WISHES, great rides! be excited...here is some pixie dust!!!:earsboy:

Goofydiane,

I'm right with you. Can't seem to get excited either. It's the first trip with 11-month old DS and I'm worried about how he'll be.

I'll be excited for you!! Don't cancel!! Just go. You'll have a great time!

That's how I feel...except my dd's 3. She has a Dr. Jekyll/Ms. Hyde personality, so I'm afraid she'll act up the whole time. lol. I'm leaving tomorrow morning and I'm not excited either. In fact, I just finished packing about 2 minutes ago.

what has gotten you excited in past years? You are so lucky to get to go every year at Christmas! Is it a case of been there, done that too many times?

Have you thought about taking a year off to do something different, or about going to WDW at a different time of year, say Halloween? Getting a different Disney flavor might just be the trick to getting the magic back.

Maybe you're putting too much pressure on yourself. Whenever I'm in "getting ready" mode every trip anywhere feels like too much work. But I've noticed that if I don't expect myself to feel a certain way it's a lot easier to ease into the trip.

So take a nap, or go to the pool, or walk around some shops at DTD when you first get there, if that's what you really feel like doing instead of racing to the parks. Give yourself a minute to make the transition. Sometimes the more stressful you day-to-day life is, the harder it is to relax into your vacation, so be kind to yourself. My guess it that if you just get down there and do what you feel like doing, even if that's not what you feel that you "should" want to do, you'll be up and happily running around MK like your usual self within a day or two at most.

I know the feeling, but I'm a "planner" so I'm really in planning mode now. Worried I'll forget something silly like shampoo (what, it can't be replaced?) getting the pets taken care of...things like that. As soon as we leave Friday, I'll relax and by the time we reach Georgia ( I love Georgia), I'll be in the mood!!

Maybe you're just caught up in getting ready and it doesn't seem real yet?::yes:: or you have other things you're busy with?

Go, you'll have a great time...Osborne Lights...Christmas Trees, Santa Mickey...Ok, I'm excited!!:hyper:

Thanks Everyone! I got to work today and one of my co-workers bought me a small version of the Marshall Fields Mickey from the 75 Mickey's celebration. Being that last year at this time we owned Marshall Field's, it was very cool to see Mickey decorated.

That added a bit of excitement to my upcoming trip. This is my second solo trip in a row - usually alternate between a solo trip and a trip with family or friends, so there is a bit of a let down there, I'm running out of friends to convince to go to WDW with me!

Keep the ideas coming for how to get excited - I'll need it!

Diane

I know what you mean. I'm scheduled to go in January with DH, DD, aged 2 and a half and my stepdaughter who is 24. At first I was really excited, but as it gets closer I am loosing interest. My DD is right in the middle of the terrible twos and can go from zero to completely out of control, screaming wail in 2.2 seconds. And mostly because we've told her to stop doing something - like trying to climb on our Greyhound's back to ride him or feeding her lunch to the Siberian Husky. Maybe things will get better after the holidays are over.

Are you stressing about last minute preparations or is it something else? I'm leaving in 3 days and I started to feel like I'd just like to forget it but I realized it's just stress from trying to get everything done. As I get more accomplished I feel a little better. I'm sure by the time we get on the road I'll just be happy to be getting away for awhile. Just go with an open mind and I'm sure the magic will find you even though you don't think you can find it. Have a wonderful trip!

I know what you mean, I'm almost dreading it!! We leave next Tuesday and I've done nothing. I think because I am responsible for getting everything done, I'm shutting down. Packing (washing clothes first) for 5, getting pet set, banking, shopping, arranging early pick up from 3 different schools.......it all just seems too much!!! I'm hoping by the weekend my mood will pick up a bit. Knowing the crowds I'm about to encounter is really depressing me too.

I certainly can't say that I'm not excited about my upcoming trip - but, at the same time, I will be getting away froma hectic work schedule and also proposing to my girlfriend. Lots of fun stuff to look forward to. Not just making my trip magical, but helping someone very dear to me have a magical time. I guess that's one of the things I'm looking forward to most of all.

This is really bringing back memories of myself exactly a year ago. The closer our trip came, the less excited I became about it. All I felt was stress. The joy was gone which was really scary.

But once we got there it all changed. We had a WONDERFUL time! It was everything I hoped it would be.

I think it's just SO NORMAL feeling this way. Just know that it doesn't mean that you wont have a great time.::yes::

That always seems to happen to me! Months and months of planning and dreaming and preparing, and then a week or so before the trip, I'm not excited! I suggest reading trip reports and looking at pictures. It helps! Plus, you'll get excited once you're there!

I just told my older daughter this is the first trip I'm not totally excited about and I don't know why. I have always dreamed about going for the holidays and here I am and I just can't get in the Disney mood.

I'm a obsessive planner, like I will make detailed trip packets for each person in the group, including Disney puzzles and trivia things for the travel leg of the trip. I make pretty daily journals for everyone. 2 weeks out I would be fully packed and ready to go. But this year I barely have the basic trip info logged in a database. We make count down chains and watch Disney movies and we have not done so.

This is what I still have to do, shop for things I need for the trip, decorate the house since I won't have time when I return, pack, finish at least a basic spreadsheet with the basic ressie info, grocery shop for the hubby(married to an anti-Disney guy LOL), get money together (still thinking I don't have enough and a lot is pre-paid), get my hair cut, color it... too much grey showing, clean the house and I'm sure there is more to do. LOL Find all my WDW info that is all over the place, tickets in one location, hotel ressie in another, yes, I'm really disorganized this time. We were in the process of buying a house when I started the planning process and it's been nuts. I have dug through all my unpacked boxes and can't find my cute little Pal Mickey, heck can't even find my wedding dress, I think they may have got tossed into the garbage by mistake during the move.

I finally went last week and got the hopper passes and when the total was $1600 I just about passed out in the Disney Store, couldn't belive I was spending that much for WDW. Yes, I knew what is was going to cost, just hit me like a ton of bricks when the poor guy gave me the total. Then that caused me to get back on the not enough money kick (we have it that's what is so funny), yet I'm still stressing about it.

I'm worried about my mom flying with my little one. We were suppose to all drive and a few weeks ago, we decided it would be best to fly them in and the rest drive. Worried about her loosing her in the airport, not finding them when they get to Orlando, my mom doesn't always pay attention to things, can be flightly at times.

I'm also worried about the drive, since I'll be the only driver, which I've done before, but not in winter.

I'm sure all this is just stress and when we all get there things will be fine, but then I'll go into stress and worry mode again because I didn't have the trip planned down to the last min. ARGHHHHHHH!!!! And yes, we do take trips off of WDW property during the year and this will probably be the last big trip for a couple of years since we want to take the girls on a few trips overseas, but yikes how do I get off my backside and get into the swing of things.

I felt like this a week or so ago. Don't worry, once you walk into the Magic Kingdom, and see the castle, you'll be very excited to be there!

We're leaving in 13 days, and I'm not as excited for several reasons. One, we were just there in September-and it was hard to get excited for that trip, because there was so much uncertainty about the hurricanes (we were there the week that Ivan made landfall in the panhandle); two, we just got back from an almost-perfect-very-relaxing 10 days in the mountains; three, this past week~since we've been back~has been unbelievably busy and stressful; four, DS and I are both sick right now, and DH thinks he is getting it, too; and truth to tell, mostly I am not AS excited because we are going with my in-laws.

I know when the time gets here, though, that we will have a great trip!

I'll reread some of our previous trip reports~that always makes me want to go back!

I'm in the same boat, but really because I am distracted by some other stuff in life right now....

Goofydiane, is it because you are feeling 'been there, done that?'. Then maybe consider something new this trip. Maybe take a holiday decoration tour? A ride you haven't done for awhile? or a restaurant you have never visited? or buy the Hidden Mickey book and give yourself a tour.

Or are you overplanned? I don't plan anymore - my job lets me travel a lot, so suitcase is always pretty much packed. I just book hotel and flight and then don't worry about any other plans.

On my current pass I was at WDW 2 weeks 12/03, 2 weeks 01/04, ten days 04/04, ten days 09/04, and will be there about ten days 12/04 - that makes 58 days in one calendar year (and I may be able to squeeze in a January visit!)

I try and find something new each time to get excited about. But I understand how you are feeling - I haven't really even told anyone that I am going to WDW again in TWELVE DAYS!

Hope that some of the ideas work!

:)
