... Diet coke !

I am drinking between 5 and 7 cans of Diet Coke a day and today , I decides : enough ! All that aspartam cannot be good for me ( and studies do show that it can cause a lot of harm)

I star ted to try to my mostly biological product ( breakfast cereals, milk , eggs etc) and almost never use prepakage stuff , so , my diet coke had to go.

Since this morning , it is English Breakfast tea. I had only ! can of coke ! I put the $1 I would use to buy the can in a cup , and so far today , I manage to raise $3 !!!! I could be rich soon !

But the Coke machine is calling me all the time , I can see it from my desk ! What do they put in diet coke ? Crack ? :) I need support , and if anyone want to start a support group , you are welcome to join ! :goodvibes

I agree it is hard and I was only drinking two cans a day! It might be harder to quit when you are used to so much--the caffeine withdrawal alone is going to be a killer. Good luck--you will feel so much better when you kick that aspartame out of your system. I really don't like that stuff!

Way to go! I quit Diet Coke a few years ago and am so glad I did. It's rough in the beginning (lot of caffeine to withdrawl from), but you'll do it. The switch to tea may ease the transition.

(If you ever want to switch to a lower-caffiene tea, try green.)

Good luck!

i too am addicted to diet coke! in fact i need to run to walmart and replenish my supply. i am now buying the airline sized cans so i can wean myself off. i am also stocking up on water big time and trying to grab it instead. a side benefit of this is weight loss (it may have zero calories, but eliminating it or cutting way back does impact the numbers on the bathroom scale :goodvibes ).

Funny you should post this: I'm thinking the same thing.

The link between aspartame and health is generally dismissed as a non issue, but I know I would drink more water if I gave up my bad habit.

More water would have to be better, even if the artifical sweetner doesn't actaully cause any specific health problems.

Good luck! I'm only to the point of cutting back. I know I can't quit cold turkey!

Bless your heart! I was a 2 litre a day gal myself! You can do it!

I was addicted to Mtn Dew - and I quit drinking it this summer. I hardly ever drink soda/pop anymore. I lost a few lbs too! You can do it! I never thought I could do it - my family can't believe it.

Good Luck!

I used to drink about 3-5 cans of soda a day and I was able to stop. I didn't drink any soda for probably 3 years. Then I discovered Vanilla Coke and Sundrop and sure enough I started drinking soda again. I'm trying to cut back again. It's easier if you don't cut it out all at once but instead cut back how many cans a day you drink. Once you get down to one can a day it's pretty easy to stop all together. Good Luck!! :goodvibes

Good luck! I drink a can a day but I don't think I'd ever be able to quit. Caffeine makes me so happy :goodvibes

I wanna join. I hate diet coke, for me the killer is Dr. Pepper. I am going to stop drinking it. I plan on drinking water from here on out. :)

Dr Pepper HAS to have SOMETHING in it. I swear. I am sooooo addicted to it!

I'm a huge Diet Coke drinker and I refuse to give it up. Everyone needs at least one vice! Besides, I hate milk, coffee and tea. Water gives me indigestion. I was meant to drink Diet Coke.

I weaned myself off by drinking an equal sized glass of water after each Diet Coke. I was up to 6-10 Diet Cokes per day and a morning Venti Double Shot Starbucks. It did help. I don't drink a lot of diet soda now, but when I do it's has to be caffeine free. I'm not doing the withdrawl thing again. :drinking:

well since both caffeine and aspartame are addictive it doesn't surprise me that people have trouble kicking diet coke.

I was a regular coke addict. For me to quit I allowed myself a little each day. the more I said I couldn't have it, the more I wanted it! I put a limit on it and rationed myself. At home I just didn't buy any, so it wasn't there when I wanted it. I allowed myself 1 (no refills) when we went out to dinner and 1 with lunch at work. Over time I cut the one at lunch and then the one at restaurants. I still have the occasional 'treat' when we are out but I figure anything is better than the amount I was drinking.

I quite caffeine at least a decade ago. I was a serious Dr Pepper addict. Drank a six pack a day and got really angry when I ran out. I find that an occasional root beer is good for a soda fix (and no caffeine! Unless you drink Barq's, which is evil). Usually, I just drink water. But still, after all these years, Dr Pepper calls my name (so does Mr Pibb). How I miss it sometimes. But, if you explore your non-caffeine options, you'll find there are some great, more natural sodas out there that taste almost the same without all the junk.

Good luck, toto! I hope you have better luck with it than I did -- I think you will. :) I've tried giving up the caffeine so many times, to no avail.

I always say the same thing! For me it's Diet Dr Pepper, I love the stuff.
