Hi gang,

First off thank you in advance for any help you can provide me.

Here's my problem my mother and my aunt will be joining me in august at Wdw. I don't get to see my mom that often since she lives around 18 hours away. Usualy we go to her house and visit, this year she mentioned that she would like to meet us in Disney.

I'm staying at Disney's Cbr, she refuses to stay on site, saying she can get a room for 39 dollars a night. Why in the world would we or she pay so much more? I've tired to explain it to her, but she is not Disney friendly like the way we dissers are. I know the Horror, The famous Diser Mr. FDNY's mom is not, Well a disney nut like us( i threw the famous in for the extra drama, hope it worked;))

So here's what i need, besides the dolphin and swan which Non-disney owned hotels offer Emh's or which one's if any offer all the perks of staying at a disney owned hotel??
Thank you again

I believe the Hilton in Downtown Disney is the only other one. The transportation will be adequate, but not quite as good as WDW's is. Shades of Green for military also does. But I don't *think* the Hilton offers package delivery to the resort as do the onsite resorts. You would get EMH.

It's doubtful she's going to find a room at any of these places for $39/night.

If she stays at a Motel 6 type place, she's going to need a car.

There are deals to be had at the values, if she shops around, you can play with dates, etc. Or you could all consider having a different kind of vacation and renting a home off-site. They're a comparative bargain, but you wouldn't get the EMH type perks. For our family, it's worth considering--we have the option of other Orlando attractions, can cook some simple meals, enjoy our own pool, etc. We can compensate for "no EMH" by staying longer. If you did this, your mom could have her own room in the house.

I wish you luck--family trips can be tricky when different people want different things.

Oh I agree....even the Value resorts are up there in nightly rentals........POP is charging $125 for Fri/Sat stays in earlier Aug....then $82/night for Sun-Thurs.

In later Aug, it appears to be $82/night for all nights....so no weekend surcharge later in the month. But this is the cheapest you'll get for a value. You could rent DVC points from a Member. YOu could get OKW for as little as $100/night for Sun-Thurs. And you would get a small refrig/kitchenette with this. But as the previous poster stated...nothing even remotely close to $39. It's pretty much you get what you pay for.

So perhaps not staying onsite, giving up EMH/package delivery for a place all of you can stay together. I don't have any experience with rental homes, but do with timeshare properties. Allearsnet.com has a "no housekeeping" rate for a 2 bedroom/2 bath villa for $99/night for dates after Aug 15. Before Aug 15, it's $139/night.

Don't know your exact dates in Aug.....but I know we usually travel in Aug and really utilize the EMH's due to larger crowds. For the prices your mom and aunt are looking for, they will have to stay offsite somewhere unfortunately.

It seems difficult to talk someone into something if they already have a mindset (like my inlaws do!). It sounds like you have different expectations for your Disney vacations.

The best thing is let her "do the math." Then when she comes back to you with all of the options, have all of the options in the Disney resorts (value resort probably best for them) and plans Disney has to offer.

Provide her all of the choices, then let her make the decision...and try not to let their decision affect your vacation, as it sounds like you took the time to really plan this trip out.

Good luck to you!

Sandy

DTD Hilton and Shades of Green both have EMH access. Those plus any other DTD hotel will have "decent" transportation, but not quite as good as Disney's.

If she is staying anywhere else, she *has to* have a car.

If you are under capacity for any resort rooms, you can add her to your reservation to get her a KTTW key with EMH access. This might require paying an extra adult charge, but that will be relatively inexpensive. A nice present for your mother.

does she happen to live in Florida? lots of residents of florida feel that way. (my brother included and he only lives 2 hours away)

do you have kids? if you do - stay on WDW property.

if you don't, just stay offsite for this one visit (I know it will hurt your vacation - but sometimes that is the price for kepting peace in the family)

have a back up reservation (if you can) - once she sees the $39 hotels she will hate WDW and blame it all on them. Despite she elected to stay offsite and her bad planning is her fault not Disney.

Now one of the best visit with mother was when we stayed at a cheap (and I mean cheap) hotel. Was taking Spicey and had the reservation made - when mother invited herself along.

It was so funny - watching mother try to be happy in a room she would never consider staying in.

at night Spicey stayed busy - going after something - have no idea what - we were afraid to turn on the lights. but nothing got in either of our beds - so he did a good job.

so there are cheap hotels - but you will definitely need a rental car - so add that to your costs. plus the parking fees at the parks.

that say it is easier to get to offsite places to eat - and they are generally alot cheaper than WDW.

here are some more expensive hotels

The hilton DTD is great - just across the street from downtown disney and you do get EMH and package delivery...Prices range from $125-$200 per night...sometimes cheaper. If you REALLY want to stay on Disney property, a great choice is renting DVC points...depending on the time of year, you could stay at OKW for as little as $80 a night on week nights (tax included) and you still get all the Disney perks.

This is a good idea Brian...so they'd need to have two extra spaces in room. CBR sleeps 4. Because OP said "mom and aunt". But a very good idea if the OP will be at only "2" in the room. I still feel OP's mom and aunt will definitely need a car.

I had mentioned this in my earlier post, but the cheapest for the month of Aug would be $100/night for weeknights (Sun-Thurs). Price goes up on Fri and Sat's.

Ah, I missed that. However, if you are at three in a room, you could move to POR and add both. The alligator bayou section has rooms that officially sleep 5.

I still feel OP's mom and aunt will definitely need a car.
I 100% agree with this.
