I don't know if this is just a bad year or what but we have bees and wasps everywhere! At least the wasps, we see where their nests are on our house and spray and knock them down. With the bees, we have a problem. They have decided to live behind the shutters by our front windows, on the 2nd story windows. To get back there, you'd really either have to be on a ladder up by the window or spray from the window...neither of which is looking like a good option to me. I'm sure we could get to it through the screen but that stuff is poison, and I don't like doing that w/DD around (or me for that matter). So, what can I do! How the heck can I get rid of them and then prevent them from coming back? Theres a lot of those little annoyances too! I wish it was winter! Help!

A lot of the Bee/Wasp killers shoot 15-20 feet from the can, so you should be able to stand on the ground and spray the nest.

Be sure you do this in the evening when they are in the nest resting, otherwise they will all come out and will be angry. :)

One of my coworkers got stung by about a dozen bees yesterday when he ran over the hive that was under his mower. He asked the same thing.

My boss suggested the long-shooting spray, but told him to still be ready to run if they get mad at what he is doing.

He said the other alternative is to call a service like Terminix. He said he had them come once because he had several hives under his eaves. They charged him about $129 to get rid of them. He said it was money well spent.

His last advice, he's been there, done that, plenty of times, is to find a contractor who can get you the spray that a contractor would use instead of just buying Raid in Lowes. He said that it is much more wicked to the bees and disorients them before it kills them so you don't have any of them chasing or stinging you.

I urge you to call in a pro for help. Yes, it will cost money but well worth the piece of mind.

Last year my cousin and a friend of his rented a house close to their college. The first night my cousin went to bed (his bed was near his closet) he heard a constant tapping. He looked around and saw nothing. A few hours later he woke up covered in bees and quite honestly, almost died. The beehive was in his closet. Since they had just moved in to the home all the hustle and bustle of organizing the closet must have disturbed their hive. He had a glass of juice on his bed side table which attracted the bees.

The risk is too great to handle this on your own.

We have the same problem at our house!
DH purchased all natural Bee spray so that there are no fumes. It smells like peppermint and is not harmful.
He had to take down the shutters and get rid of TONS of bee hives.
He hasn't been stung, but boy are they mad at him.

Perhaps a professional is best, but if it's the poisonous fumes, they do make a non-harmful spray...I think he got it at Sears.

Good luck and BEE careful!

When I saw this, I thought it said "Help me get rid of beers!!" Now THAT I coulda helped you with. :teeth:

Good luck with the BEES. ;)

If you have yellow jackets in the ground, you need to find out the general area where they come out of the nest. Put a plastic container or bowl over this area. They have one way in and one way out and they are too stupid to go out the in door when they can't make it out the out door, LOL

I have done this and it works....

UPDATE:

I called to have someone spray behind the shutters and they were out this morning. Apparently, these too are wasps, and it was a fairly large nest there. Right now, I'm not leaving my house because they are MAD! They fly in and sit on the ledge and scratch their eyes and legs. HAHA! They should be gone soon!
