This September I will be in WDW with my GF for 10 days staying @ the WDW Swan Resort. While we are there, on the first night I will likely propose to her, but I am still very unsure how best to do it. My GF loves fireworks and roller coasters. However, she is not too big on public attention, but not overly shy either. That in mind here are the ideas that I am considering...

Fireworks Options...
1) Propose in front of the Magic Kindom during Wishes - where is the big ???
2) Take a wishes cruise and propose during the fireworks ($140 for 1 hr)

Dinner Option...
1) During dinner in Cinderella's Castle

Exciting Option...
1) During a Ride on Spash Mountain with a boat all to ourselves (will be vising in late Sept so crowds should be light)
2) As we are going up Space Mountain

I know the last two are kinda crazy, but they are options... What does everyone think? I like the idea of in front of the Castle when "when you wish upon a star" starts on our first night... Any thoughts on where near the castle with a good view is best?

Best location regardless of crowd? vs. Best location wile keeping some semblance of privacy?

Thanks!!!

By the way - I am 33 - she is 27 and neither of us have been married before...

My vote would be at dinner at CRT - romantic, semi-private, VERY SPECIAL!!! Everytime you went back for dinner, you'd be reminded of that wonderful evening. Then top it off with seeing Wishes as a newly engaged couple!!!

Congrats!!!! :cool1:

On one of her favorite rides, find out where the "ride picture" is taken, hold up a sign "will you marry me?" (without her seeing it, of course), and then let her look for the picture at the end of the ride and have the ring ready.

OK, not the most romantic, but pretty cool, and would draw some, but not too much attention.

I agree with travelin' tigger. That would be so romantic and something you could do everytime on future trips. Good Luck. ::MickeyMo

OMG I LOVE that idea!!

The sign idea is very cool, if you can smuggle a sign on to the ride, and hold it up without her seeing it.

Another, more traditional idea is to take her to the California Grill for dinner and fireworks, and mention when you make your PS that you want to get engaged and request the best table for viewing the fireworks (I have a feeling they'll be willing to accomodate you :) ).

When the lights are dimmed and with fireworks going, pop the question.

I'd also post this question in the Wedding & Honeymoons forum ~ I'll bet they have some great idea to help you decide :goodvibes

I proposed to my finace in front of Cinderella Castle right as Fantasy in the Sky fireworks ended. Unforgetable! Everyone around us clapped and cheered once they realized what I had just done.

First off, CONGRATULATIONS!!!! I can’t think of a more romantic place to get engaged! DH and I went there on our honeymoon and it was wonderful…

I have to say – I am a detail person and I always have to have everything all set. I also think Wishes and the castle have to be the most magnificent backdrop for a proposal EVER! But I would be worried about getting the perfect spot, dropping the ring in the crowds, etc.

So I guess I love your idea of the Wishes cruise. We have done that several times and if I imagine my DS not there – well – it would be really romantic ;) And you have the perfect, private forum for your proposal.

Or maybe a romantic dinner at California Grill, Artist Point, etc. with a semi private/public proposal followed by the Wishes cruise. You can snuggle up in blankets and watch the beautiful fireworks over the castle as a newly engaged couple.

On the other hand - anything you do will be perfect, because it truly is a wonderful place to get engaged...!

As a sappy woman, personally I would be most moved by the popping of the question in front of the Castle during the fireworks.

Hi there-

I proposed to my "ex" fiance in October at Disney. I asked the same questions as you on this board and got lots of help so I will impart my wisdom on you young jedi.

I was torn between proposing in front of the castle during WISHES (too many people around), getting the fireworks cruise (thought it would be a dead giveaway), and doing it over a nice dinner somewhere. Well, at first I decided on the fireworks cruise, but there were none available. So after days of hard work, I had some magical pixie dust thrown in by the CM's (with help of some people on these boards) and got my own cruise (they have 2 extra boats that they use as backups, and they gave me one of them). Well, I thought about it long and hard, and decided that I didnt want to do that WISHES fireworks cruise simply because I couldnt figure out how to get her on the boat without giving it away. It would be too obvious.

SO, someone else on these boards gave me contact info for the manager of CITRICO's restaurant in the grand floridian. I talked to him a few days before our arrival, and he totally took care of us. When we arrived for dinner, he was waiting for us, gave us a very very nice table with a view of the MK and WISHES, and told the entire staff what was going on. It was a very magical experience. I went to the bathroom during the meal to give him the ring, and during desert, he brought out a chocolate Cindarellas slipper with the ring inside of it. It was a very fancy plate they made up with the slipper. After I proposed, everyone in the restaurant clapped (remember WISHES is going on during this whole thing and everyone is looking out the windows at the fireworks when they see me get down on my knee). After the proposal, teh CM's came over took pictures and offered their congrats. They printed up a menu for us with our names and date of engagement on it just for us. It was very very magical. I have the contact info if you are interested. Oh yeah, before we went to Citricos at the GF, we took a monorail from MK to POLY (we had to get our AP's validated), and walked from POLY to GF, past the wedding house there. Very magical.

Oh, and do it the first night, or else you will be nervous the whole vacation. And you might ask, how do I get the ring through airport security? Easy. Pack the box, take the ring, put it in a jewelery pouch, and pack it in a box of small QTIPs or Bandaids, and take it on the plane in a carry on. She'll have no idea, and secuirty wont see it. I almost got caught though cause when we got to the hotel, she wanted a Q tip and picked up the box before I could take the ring out. CLOSE CALL, but i fixed it.

Anyway, any questions let me know.

I proposed to my fiancee during dinner at CRT. It was on our first day. She had always wanted to do the KTTK tour, so we did that first thing, then just hung out before dinner. I managed to buy a small glass slipper without toomuch notice, and, when we got to the restaurant, I was able to disappear for a few moments (restroom trip) to catch the maitre d' to set up the details. All her life, my fiancee thought you had to be really special to eat at CRT (her belief since she was a little girl), and, though her opinion changed, there was still plenty of magic in that location. I also had the benefit of using lots of disinformation leading up to it so that any suspicion was lost by the time I did the act (though she still did not connect with why I wore my blazer with my outfit for the day - she chalked it up to my being eccentric). I guess the best key is to use what she likes to your advantage.

Hey!! I've got the exact same problem!!:teeth:

I posted this same question on the Weddings board: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=815459

There were some really great responses that might help you out. I can also give you this tip: if you really want to do it during WISHES, but want to avoid the crowds, my GF and I found out that if you go around behind the castle, between Fantasyland and Tomorrowland, around where 2000 Leagues used to be (now Ariel's Grotto or something??), the area is usually deserted, and you can still see most of the fireworks. Very nice, romantic and private.

Good luck!!!

THE FIREWORK SPECIALTY CRUISES AT DISNEY ARE FABULOUS! DEFINETLY ROMANTIC & ONE OF HER INTERESTS. ME & MY FIANCE DID THE ILLUMINATIONS CRUISE FROM THE YACHT CLUB WITH SNACKS & DESSERT ON BOARD IN NOVEMBER & IT WAS SO MAGICAL! MAKE SURE TO BRING A CAMERA, ASK THE DRIVER TO TAKE A PHOTO, GREAT MEMORY :goodvibes. BOOK RIGHT AT THE 90 DATE IN THE A.M.

DINNER AT CRT WOULD ALSO BE NICE FOR A PROPOSAL, SET IT UP WITH CRT WHEN MAKING YOUR PS & WHEN ARRIVING THAT THIS IS A PROPOSAL. MAYBE HAVE THEM WRITE ON THE SLIPPER DESSERT PLATE WILL YOU MARRY ME? & PROPOSE OVER CHOCOLATE RIGHT BEFORE THE MK FIREWORKS GO OFF (CHECK THE MK HOURS WHEN COORDINATING DINNER WITH MK FIREWORKS) YOU CAN SEE THE FIREWORKS OUT THE WINDOWS. CRT IS ONE OF OUR FAVORITES IT HAS SUCH AMBIANCE.

THERE ARE TONS OF GREAT IDEAS & I'M SURE NO MATTER WHERE YOU DO IT, THE PROPOSAL WILL BE MAGICAL.

My first thought, even before I read the other post was Cinderella's Slipper. As soon as I saw it (I ordered it last July for my niece, SIL and myself), I thought it would be the most romantic thing to have a ring delivered on Cinderella's Slipper. You could have "Her name, will you marry me?", or "I love you", or anything else special to the two of you written on the plate if you want, plain would be classy too. Of course the idea mentioned with Wishes and Fireworks in the background is just an added touch. It can be ordered in advance from the Grand Floridian bakery and served at any of the Grand Floridian restaurants.

A quiet beautiful dinner with the castle in the background and a ring delivered on Cinderella's slipper during Wishes. I can't think of anything more romantic than that. I'm sure your waiter/waitress will do everything they can to help make is possible. I've actually even suggested this to my son who's dating, I'm sure, my future DIL.

I like reedycreek's idea. I think trying to do it during a ride or while you are in the crowd would be too difficult. Also, if you are in the crowd in front of the castle, it might be too loud.

Of course there are other romantic places in WDW too.
If you wanted to do it on a ride, I'd choose something quiet like the peoplemover.

Hello

Firstly I have to say you are a sweety! Most guys dont like to hear that but IT IS a compliment!

I wouldnt be too sure about the ride proposals, She propaply wont hear you ok and you would have to repeat the question, Also you wouldnt be able to see her expression properly.

If she is ok about been in public then I would def' go for Cinderellas but if you prefer a more private place then just the two of you standing away from the crowd during wishes would be perfect.

Good luck :shamrock:

My husband proposed to me while we were whipping around on the Matterhorn at Disneyland. He screamed "Will you marry me?" from behind and I screamed "yes!". It was totally unexpected and something I will NEVER EVER forget!

But in my opinion, no matter what you are doing, or where in WDW you are, it will be a treasured memory for her forever!

It sounds crazy, but that idea about holding the sign up at the photo part of a ride that says Will you marry me just seems really cool and slick if you could pull it off. I don't know which ride is calm enough at the picture spot to do it though. Maybe dinosour as that is more scary than fast. Splash MT and others seem pretty difficult.

Either way I think it would be great! Congrats! :bride:

God's blessings,

- J

Thanks for the replies everyone! I am probably leaning towards either in front of the castle during fireworks or during dinner before Wishes @ CRT. She has mentioned over and over and over about seeing Wishes and that she loves them. It would be tough to plan Cinderella's Royal Table during Wishes on the first night since I know she will want to be out in front of the castle watching them.

The other option is still somehow on a ride, however I know it is not as romantic, she has already planned on Space Mountain being the traditional ride every time we go to WDW as the first thing we do no matter how long the ride. However, the problem with Space Mountain is it is loud and fast (well, sort of) and I would not be able to see her face. Let alone the chance of losing the ring on the ride while I was trying to give it to her...

Having "Will you marry me" written on the plate with the slipper desert is right up there with during wishes out front. Right now I think I am leaning towards during wishes in front of the Castle simply because of how often she has mentioned the fireworks... The hard part for me would be waiting all day with the ring in my pocket!
