The teachers in the kids elementary school put on a teacher talent show at the end of the year. The fifth grade teachers have asked my daughter for help in coming up with songs that are popular with the kids and completely clean and usuable in the talent show for either a skit or a lip-sync thing.

They were specifically looking for a song that said "bye" to the 5th graders but any input would be welcome.

My daughter mentioned a song but we dont' know the name of it....it may be called "Graduation" by Vitamin C but we're not sure. The song is about leaving one school and going to another and in the middle of it kids talk about what they thought middle school would be like....Anybody know what I'm talking about ?

Thanks!

My dd said it's called Friends forever.

The song by Vitamin C is "Graduation". Friends forever is a line form it. I have a disk I made a couple of years ago with related songs. I'll have to locae it and let you know what else is on there.

And so we talked all night about the rest of our lives
Where we're gonna be when we turn 25
I keep thinking times will never change
Keep on thinking things will always be the same
But when we leave this year we won't be coming back
No more hanging out cause we're on a different track
And if you got something that you need to say
You better say it right now cause you don't have another day
Cause we're moving on and we can't slow down
These memories are playing like a film without sound
And i keep thinking of that night in june
I didn't know much of love
But it came too soon and there was me and you
And then we got real blue
Stay at home talking on the telephone
We'd get so excited, we'd get so scared
Laughing at our selves thinking life's not fair
And this is how it feels

1:
As we go on, we remember
All the times we had together
And as our lives change, come whatever
We will still be, friends forever

So if we get the big jobs and we make the big money
When we look back now, will our jokes still be funny?
Will we still remember everything we learned in school?
Still be trying to break every single rule
Will little brainy bobby be the stockbroker man?
Can heather find a job that won't interfere with her tan?
I keep, i keep thinking that it's not goodbye
Keep on thinking it's a time to fly
And this is how it feels

Repeat 1

La, la, la, la; yeah, yeah, yeah
La, la, la, la, we will still be friends forever

Will we think about tomorrow like we think about now?
Can we survive it out there? can we make it somehow?
I guess i thought that this would never end
And suddenly it's like we're women and men
Will the past be a shadow that will follow us round?
Will these memories fade when i leave this town
I keep, i keep thinking that it's not goodbye
Keep on thinking it's a time to fly

Repeat 1 x3

Looking forward to seeing more ideas intenseblue98!

Thanks!

Auntlissa: Thanks for the link for the lyrics...I've printed it and I think it's definitely what my daughter thought of.

That wasn't so hard to find, not like I had expected it to be! Coincidentally, this was for my DD's 5th grade graduation too. I chose these songs for their message.

Greenday - Time of Your Life
Dixie Chicks - Wide Open Spaces
Sarah McLachlan - I Will Remember You
Alan Jackson - Remember When
Lee Ann Womak - I Hope You Dance
R. Kelly - I Believe I Can Fly
Eva Cassidy - Fields of Gold ( I believe this was the song Sarah Hughes skated to in the 2002 Olympics)
LeeAnn Rimes - Please Remember (from Coyote Ugly soundtrack)
the last track is Pomp & Circumstance

aunt lissa, wanna find lyrics for any of these?

edited to add - I just was reading on amazon.com that Eva Cassidy passed on in 1996 from Melanoma. I hadn't heard her recording until a few years ago. Her song was a cover of Sting's "Fields of Gold".

Another turning point, a fork stuck in the road
Time grabs you by the wrist, directs you where to go
So make the best of this test, and don't ask why
It's not a question, but a lesson learned in time
It's something unpredictable, but in the end is right
I hope you had the time of your life
So take the photographs, and still frames in your mind
Hang it on a shelf in good health and good time

Tattoos of memories and dead skin on trial
For what it´s worth, it was worth all the while
It´s something unpredictable, but in the end is right
I hope you had the time of your life.
It´s something unpredictable, but in the end is right
I hope you had the time of your life.
It´s something unpredictable, but in the end is right
I hope you had the time of your life

OK, I'm changing the subject of my "find a song" thread because in loooking for appropriate songs, etc, we've managed to find some songs by a new group my daughter likes and I wondered if anyone is familiar with this band and how acceptable the music may or may not be.

Anybody heard of "Good Charlotte"? What do you think of them/her/him/it?

These "goodbye" songs remind me of my graduation 5 years ago. We put together a tape that had these types of songs on it. One that i always think of is "Goodbye" by Spice Girls. It's a beautiful song.

Doesn't Good Charlotte do that song that goes "Girls don't like boys, girls like cars and money...." it's catchy but I haven't heard the whole thing. I'm 40, so forgive me.
I have heard "Graduation" at the prom where I teach; it always makes the girls cry.

Yes, that's one of them. There's another called "lifestyles of the rich and famous" and I'm not sure I like the lyrics but I had a hard time understanding them. I'll head over to Aunt Lissa's lyrics site and try to read them.

Just wondering what the scoop is on this group, I'm unfamiliar.
