Ok - not to rain on anyone's parade, cause I love my loopy punches, but Z2H found out (the hard way) that these don't just work on any sized paper.
Watch this MS YouTube video for more info about what sizes work, but here's my quick scribbles from watching it. She demoed the single loop set, so I'm not sure if the measurements are for all of the MS "punch around the page" sets.
Basically, these punches only work when your paper is in increments of 1.75 inches.
So - according to the video, these are the paper measurements that work, if you want your corners and edges to work out accurately:
3.25"
5"
6.75"
8.5"
10.25"
12"
(So, a 12" x 12" square works, a 5" x 6.75" one works, etc....)
I used my punch first on a 5" x 7" photomat, and it worked, but I had to carefully double-punch (overlap) a section to get it to work. I thought it was my mistake, but didn't know then that only certain paper sizes make things line up accurately.

Also - came across this site which shows how to use the loopy punch for circle shapes. It seemed helpful!!
